I have a new to me 7 mag coming my way in the next week, and recently was given about ten pounds of old H870. From what I’ve read is was considered to be a peas and carrots powder for heavier bullets in the 7 mag back when it was available. I’m not able to find much data online, and my loading manuals don’t go back that far. So does anyone here have experience with this combo? I plan on running 160 grain accubonds, if I can find some.

I need to check my older Nosler reloading manuals but I believe they had some H870 load data in there (maybe for the 175s but still useful info).
Edit to add: Nosler #5 has 79.5 grains of H870 for the 160 grain projectiles (max load at near 3100 fps).
I have a 160 Accubond load that is running at 3000 fps out of a 26" Win 70 and well behaved between 20F to 70F. H870 certainly can't claim the benefits of today's more refined/advanced powders but the 7 RM is a good incinerator to burn some up with the heavier class bullets.

I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

My older horny manual shows 79.1 max (3,000 fps) for the 154 gr SP and 78.8 max (3,000 fps) with the 162 gr BTHP with H870.
Looking for my Hodgdon #3 manual.
H870 is pretty close to US869 and Accurate 8700

Back in the 70's when I used a 7 mag. Remington for all my big game hunting I used 79 grains of H870 behind the then new Speer Grand Slam bullet.
