Im considering a 500XXX EG that has a slightly sagging lever; probably about .25 to .3 of an inch . Is there anything that can be done to correct this? LGS is asking $350 and it's a 250-3000. Sagging lever and butt stock modification are driving the price.

Don’t forget to offer $300 for the old screwed up gun. He doesn’t know , you know, how to fix it.

Well, here's my first impulse purchase of 2021.

It's had the cheekpiece added, lever sags, been D&T'd, and needs a new lever boss screw. Im sure something else will pop up. Scope is an interesting Weaver KV 2.75-5 with a post reticle.

Anyone care to guess what is after the 25 on this boss code? sn indicates an early 51 DOM.

(sorry the pic isnt better, best i could do with the cell. I cant hardly make it out even with a magnifying glass)

That could be a C. Or anything else. grin

If you REALLY want to know, pull the buttstock and look on the left side of the receiver above the lever. Date code was stamped there also, and since it's flat it's almost always legible. I'd just go with the serial number range.

Sagging levers and tang cracks. Sounds like 99s age as about as gracefully as their owners!

I think sagging lever is a condition of the shooter. Lever droop is a condition of the gun.

1) I have 25A's and 25C's in my data. Is the serial actually 500xxx? The serial is mid 1947. Two to four years before the listed LBC.

2) Are those glass lens covers clamped on the scope? Never seen that before.

3) I'd like to see more photos of the cheek piece.

Sn is 597XXX. With bifocals and a 10X loupe, i was able to barely make out the upper curve of a "C". Looks like 1951.
Yes, the caps tighten with a screw.

The cheek piece is very well done and looks like it was made by someone who took pride in their work. I wouldn't be surprised if it was another Savage stock. The story i got was "the widow wanted to use her her husbands gun but it didn't fit her well enough to get the scope lined up so she had that put on".
