I prefer classic. Semper Fi I used to run with the hare. Now I'm envious of the tortoise and I do my own stunts but rarely intentionally

Nice looking rifle, beautiful wood. Unfortunately, they have a reputation for jamming and are nicknamed "the Jamomatic". I have the newer model, 7400(same thing really) in .308, it functions flawlessly.
30-06 is the one that has the reputation for jamming, however if you use 150 grain bullets instead of full power 180's and keep the chamber clean, the rails don't get scored and they function fine in my experience.

The biggest issue is just keeping them clean. Most guys sprayed a 1/2 can of WD-40 in them, stuck them in a sheepskin lined case and then went out in sub freezing temps so of course they jammed.

I've owned maybe 5 or 6 Remington 742's & 74's - I didn't have an issue with jamming, ever!

The wood on that old gal is gorgeous.

Your right, my brother had that issue with his 742 243win and there was so much build up of wd40 in there it's a wonder he even was able to get 1 shot off. Cleaned it up and and only used a light coat of lucas where needed and clean often and has had no more problems.

The biggest problem with the 742 is the bolt rail. If you don't clean and lube the rail wears out. It is part of the receiver and is machined in. Then you have a perfectly good single shot.

Started my hunting career with a 742, 30-06 carbine.

Nice looking rifle! I too started my deer hunting career with a 742 in .30-06. I've killed a dump truck full of deer with it and never had one single jam or FTF. I still have that gun and will never sell it.
Good luck with your sale!

Has it ever had scope base attached? Any marks there?
