Pics soon... Look like really nice SAA clones, both in 45 Colt. In fact, I read the Peacekeeper is a close enough copy of a Colt that there should be patent infringement issues. But that's something I read, not something I know as a fact. I've not heard of American Western Arms, but that doesn't really mean a whole lot as I'm not in the CAS game at all. These revolvers are part of a good friends collection that I'm helping to move along and hoping to get some information on them. There's also an as new Marlin 336CB in 38-55 in the collection. That one I know a little more about. I'll be back over there tomorrow and take some pictures to post here. Just starting the thread now to maybe get some info. Thanks in advance, Dean.

Some years ago my "revolversmith", Alan Harton (Single Action Service), commented that it was not uncommon for the internals to be soft on AWA's and he heat treated many for CAS folks. Just an FYI. They are nice looking pieces.

The lawsuit that was brought by Colt against AWA was not for patent infringement, it was for violation of "trade dress", and focused on the rampant colt logo on the grips and the "Peacekeeper" name, which had already been used on a Colt revolver.

The AWA's were made by Armi San Marco in Italy, and many of the Peacekeepers were actually color casehardened by Doug Turnbull. Their colors do not take a backseat to anybody. I own 3 Colt SAA's, 2 AWA Peacekeepers and one USFA. The USFA is nickel finish. The colors on the Peacekeepers are every bit as good, if not better, than the Colts.

The Peacekeepers are very good shooters, but my two in .357 came with impossibly high front sights. I had to file them down quite a bit to bring them into zero. But they are really nice revolvers at less than half the price of a Colt.

In this photo, the Colts are on the left and the two on bottom right are the AWA's.

I bought a 4 3/4" Longhorn .44-40 from a member that seemed unfired, at least until I put a half-box of Black Hills thru it the other day. Groups well at 20 yards, the longest I could get out of the local indoor range. Recoil is easy with the "Cowboy Loads," too. I'll try it soon with some stouter handloads with 200 gr. LBT "almost wadcutters" that shoot so well in my Colt "New Service" .44-40.
