Montucky by fhuqking light years. Hint.
........ Well after a few recommendations by reliable posters like Fotis, we get this. Have learned slowly that Sticks recommendations can easily be a contra-indicator. I'm "sticking" to my Tikka Superlight idea....

Question re the Montana 223's, are they built on the same size action as the other short action Montana's or are they a micro version of the 84M? I'm guessing they use the same size 84M action but want to verify. Thanks.
ETA obviously the bolt face is different, so a different bolt is needed.

ETA obviously the bolt face is different, so a different bolt is needed. Same action, smaller bolt face. They are the same size, but have different machining for the ejection port and a few other areas.

Thinking about building a small .223 to carry deer hunting in the Adirondacks. The Kimber Montana idea seems about ideal. I have a build on a short 700. Mine is .204 but the idea should work if you want something right on 7 pounds. I started with a SS 700 action, McMillan Hunter's Edge stock, a PacNor super match stainless barrel, factory sporter contour, fluted, finished at 24 inches. I have a non-AO Leupold 4.5-14X VH on it in Talley ringmounts. It is 6.98 pounds. Light enough to pack, heavy enough to shoot well. You could do something like that with a shorter barrel. You could do it on a Seven action. In fact, you should be able to get a Remington Seven stainless in .223 and I think it has the 1-9" twist, at least the later ones. (Best check on that, though, I think I remember remembering that but I'm not sure sure.) Should have a 20" barrel. Truth is, after hunting with Kimbers the past 6-8 years, to me Remington actions with skinny barrels don't look right, don't balance right. I like 'em but maybe not for super light builds.
Anyone who thinks there's two sides to everything hasn't met a Mbius strip.
Here be dragons ...

I learned the lesson after having barrels installed on many 700's and one 70 in my quest to go lighter.
The Montana's I used for donors were 750-800 and I got a great action, trigger and stock and sold the barrels so 650-700 to start.
I am not saying 700's are bad in any way, with a good trigger and a McMillan they are nice but the Montana is great value as a donor.

If not shooting lefthanded, that sounds so easy. May have to buy a donor just for future righthanded shooters in the family.

I have a lightweight 223. It was kind of a parts rifle. I had a M700 blued action and found a 20” 223 M7 factory barrel. I scored a deal on a B&C lightweight stock. It is never going to be a long range tach driver but it sure is fun to shoot. I haven’t shot it in a few years though. I was contemplating selling it or building something else.

I've got 'em on Teeker,Seven,700 and Montuckys if only fhuqking obviously. Have shot 'em in Sako,Krico,CZ and Howa too(Custom all). The Montucky simply steals the fhuqking show and by lightyears. If only as plainly cited, fhuqking prior. Hint.
Many of 'em,are in fact very Long Range Tackdrivers. I wouldn't want anything slower than 8" RPM,if only because I shoot 7,7.5,8,9,10,12 and 14" RPM in extrapolation. Hint.
I shoot it all and then some. Hint.
You've been led to water.
Thank me later.

What’s the heaviest bullet you shoot for a deer bullet with the 9” twist and which powder?
Thanks.

Thinking of a 6-7#, 21-22" barrel 222 build.
Fur and feather exploder.
Was thinking of a Model 7. Run 40 grain bullets, up to 50s maximum.
The last time that bear ate a lawyer he had the runs for 33 days!

Weight isn't the impetus, projectile length is. Tough to beat the Hornie 75 BTHP as a default for everything, when suffering 9" RPM. Hint. Slide the magbox shim, shorten bolt stop/ejector,add a smidge of exhaust port flare and nice thangs happen by default, with Lever' fueled Smooches crowding 3000fps. They are NASTY Little Fhuqking Hammers. Hint............... 40/50's suck heavy ass, compared to the good stuff. Wind, impact velocity and transonic slips,if only as starters. Hint. 'Course I shoot it all and then some. Hint. The Electric Chair(far left) is a Seven based 223AI 20" 10" RPM that'll fling 40's at 3950fps,which of course pale to 50's at 3700fps and they of course suck ass compared to a 75 at 3150fps,in the same chambering. Hint. 8" RPM as a minimum. Deuces suck, especially in Retard Twist Rates. Hint. Didn't last long and became a Hawk Hill 7" RPM 223 SALAMI for 88's. hint. Just sayin'. Thank me later. Hint.............. LongTimeDumber, Pardon your Emotions making less than zero fhuqks to me,or said rifles. Hint. LAUGHING!..............

Real nice score on the Kimber. You're in tall cotton now.
