Anyone else like them?

Hearing their lonely haunting horns in the distance at night or early morning? Listening to the engines roll up power as they move through the yards several miles away.

Was up most of the night thinking about my Grandfather and Dad, both passed on now. Granddad work for Southern Pacific for almost 40 years. Got lots of memorabilia from his time with them.

Anyway. cant wait for the Railroad museums to open back up so I can take the grandkid and teach him a thing or two.

I personally despise them being a Engineer and running the trains hundreds of miles on some of the long runs, and blowing the horn thru the middle of a cornfield where we can clearly see no traffic around and the crossings have gates and lights is ridiculous.

I grew up within a couple miles of a rail line, and I well remember the sound of the horn as they crossed Calla Road, after picking up from the mills down in Youngstown. My wife and I bought a small house in Baxter, Mn. just over a year ago. There's a busy rail line nearby, and I love hearing the train come through. The big diesels pulling hard, and the horn blowing that intersections. I'ts a very comforting reminder of my youth.

I respect and appreciate what they do but they are as annoying as a school bus.

Like to hear them, because I rarely do.
Damn glad I don't have to put up with them on a daily basis.
There is an abandoned spur of the old Pennsy within 500 yards of the house.
Hasn't run in decades. I'm glad.

That’s cool.

Is that some sort of scraper on the keychain?

At a distance maybe, but live and work close to them and they can kiss my ass. We have an engineer that goes through every Sunday that must have had a lifetime dream to blow that whistle. He starts blowing that thing two towns over non stop.

Screw you! I'm voting for Trump again!

Also loved looking at and listening to trains.

There is an old railroad spur that runs through town that the tracks have been removed. Ran right next to my Maternal Grandparent's house. I remember as a young kid seeing the engine move the cars just on the other side of the fence in their back yard. Still an empty grass alley now for about two miles over 45years later. Assume it will be turned into a community path at sometime.
