Thanks Greg, deflave....

I bought this blank and action thinking .222 but since I already had a "Few" I built a .2ppc in stead.

Bought my Vixen deuce in 1979 after foolishly selling my 722 deuce. It’s accurate with anything I feed it.

He is currently lining a .22 Savage Hi-Power barrel for me, with a true .224" 8 twist.

Goona be a fun one.

I shoot both.
My favorite Rifle is a sako l461 in 222
Shooting 40 gr Vmax
I do shoot a lot of 223 I have a ton of diff bullets I stocked up on and they get run through the 223. Scored 10k 40 gr vmaxes several years ago for 7 cents each so they are saved for the 222.

Tikkanut: The "triple deuce" was my first love in Varmint Rifles!
That Rifle was shared by my older brother and myself and was a long barreled Remington 722 in that wonderful and wonderfully accurate 222 Remington caliber.
Sadly over the decades I have let a couple/few Rifles in 222 Remington slip through my fingers but I still have half a dozen on hand.
Including a stunningly accurate Remington 40XB-BR, a Sako L46 (heavy barrel), two Remington 700 Classics and an old timey Remington 700 BDL Varmint along with a Remington 722 in "deuce", just for old times sake.
The 222 has served me well and wonderfully at times Hunting Varmints and predators all over the west.
Can't imagine being without one.
But indeed the 223 Remington does perform a skosh better afield and last time I counted I had 13 (thirteen) Varmint Rifles in that caliber and 2 (two) pistols.
Today if two comparable Rifles were at a sale and one was in 222 Remington and the other in 223 Remington I would opt for the 222 - again, just for old times sake.
Long live the 222 Remington!

Culled thousands (legally) of deer and 80% of them were with 222. Love that cute little round. My Sako 222 with Bofors steel barrel, I guess 60's vintage, loves 50 grain bullets and H322 powder. Hates 40 grainers...

Ok, here's today's stupid question...

Can a slow twist barrel, like the 1/14 in my 788, be regroved to a faster twist... same barrel just regroved?

You could sleeve it with a new twist rate.

Interesting... probably better to just buy a 223 to shoot heavier bullets.

I have a 700 LA action I'm thinking of 6.5-284 or 6.5-06 and pac nor is on the list.

don't really want to mess with the 788 that much.
