Can anyone guess the maker of this 500-gr RN FMJ solid for the 470 NE ?
The hollow point .475/ 500-grainer should be an easy one to name maker,
but might be considered a bit "oddball" in this application.
Extending the oddball bullet to oddball cartridge:
That is a 680-gr Hoch Nose-Pour cast in 30:1 Lead/Tin, sized to .512" for this .510"-grooved, "wildcat" .50-70 Little BigHorn.
40.0 grains of H322 with a 1/4"-thick foam wad gets it to 1303 fps MV in my 28"-barreled Rolling Block.
Accurate in 1:24" twist.
Slower is no good.
Can't do it with BP.
Oddball.
You'll need a 1:8" twist for subsonic with the 50 BMG oddball loads in this "wildcat."
70 grains of compressed GOEX FFg with a 0.030"-thick cardboard wad and 2 newsprint wads
with 452-gr Lee (30:1) sized to .512" gets MV of 1225 fps.
Supersonic with light bullet BP loads for re-enactments of Little Bighorn massacre of 7th Cavalry.
