I've cracked 2 different top straps in the past 10-12 years. Both replaced without question.

I had the top strap of one of the rings cracked all the way across on a 300 WM Rem 700 I have. Emailed Talley and they wanted a picture sent to them. Got replacements sent to me in about 5 days. I baby my rifle, so it was not dropped, etc. only shot and hunted with.

Held up fine on several 375 H&H. Owner said he does the same with no problem. Hunt hard and abuse my rifles. Just lucky I guess.

In the case of one of my buddies, it was PTSD from Viet Nam. 30 years after the war, he lost it and among other things, he painted his Honda's rims purple and highlighted his license plate with glitter. He drove that car for months before he finally got pulled over for the glitter. On topic, I have never had a problem with Talley LWs.

Interesting. I’ve used several sets of Talley LW ring mounts. Biggest gun was 270 WSM. carried that one around for a week in a scabbard in NWT. Have not had a failure. After reading these posts, I won’t be buying any more of them.
Did break the bolt handle off a R 700. Had a stuck case and I beat the hell out of the handle with the palm of my hand. Broke it off. Sent to REM, they replaced the barreled action.

Not bad, but not quite the same. It needs more, well, flavor....... whistle

When scopes were light, lightweight aluminum rings were fine. It's the 20+ oz, physically bigger scopes, with larger objective lens, that will eventually break aluminum rings. Like rifle scopes, it's not a matter of if, but when......

I have used them on a 22-250 and 270. Both see hard use and no issues.

None of mine have ever cracked. I torque the caps to about 17 inch pounds, and the bases to 20-25. None have loosened or slipped either on rifles up to .30/06.

Fair enough. For me the feature set is non-negotiable.

I hear they're popular in England too.

On a 308 WInchester, well taken care of, 25 in/lb of torque, not lapped, Leupold VX 3 2.5-8.

Well I think I'm gonna say no to Talley LW's. Will probably just throw some Warne rings on some weaver bases. Decent ring spacing but not as good as a rail. No inclination. Real heavy, sure to impress nobody.

Seriously, thanks everyone for the input, sounds like the Talleys are a compromised design.

The right rail with correct fasteners and proper ring spacing is impressive.
