Been shooting Winchester 150gr powerpoints for a while. When ammo is ever available again I'd like to try a better factory load for .308 bolt rifle. Used for deer. Suggestions?

Used for deer, I doubt you'll find a poor factory load outside of ball (which will work), but for bigger game I would suggest Federal Trophy Bonded 165gr. Ammo.... And look at the "deer" sub forum for better and more answers... You'll get you @ss handed to you on this one. eek Tough crowd here.

For deer, 150 partition. Unless you're shooting long range.

The big thing to consider is how do these shoot in your gun... the powerpoints will kill any deer you shoot if you shoot it in the vitals. I would look at several brands - loads and see what shoots the best.

May not be a premium load, but I really like the 165 gr Federal Fusion in .308. It's also loaded with 150 gr bullets if you like the lighter stuff.

... the Barnes TTSX is the deadliest bullet I’ve ever shot in .308 ... destroys everything in its path. 130 gr will shoot really flat, great for whitetail ... 150 gr is probably more than you need for deer and the 168 will Kill anything on the North American Continent.

My Abolt 2 likes the 150's. I imagine it would shoot the 165's too but I've never had a reason to try anything else.

I know y'all are gonna laugh at me... grin

But I have been killing LOTS of stuff with this ammo.

Shoots great, feeds great, not nasty, and kills like the hammer of Thor.

Just bought another case of 500 rounds. (Wish I'd bought more cases when it was real cheap) frown

The 500 round case I bought in January was $200 plus shipping.

The one I bought last week was $400 plus shipping.

Still beats $50 bucks a box of 20! wink

Yessir and you did good.

I’ve seen it locally in fmj only. I’d jump on some SPs.

Hard to beat the old reliable Remington Core-Lokt 150 gr, now in "Ultra Bonded"

I have a bunch of those too.

Got them cheap by the hundreds.

Have a long range rifle set up that loves them, and shoots them well.

I don't blast those away like 22's though. smile

Yeah, I don't know what people's fascination with FMJ's is...

I really don't have any use for them. When I shoot something, I want to make a HOLE in it... laugh

The sp's are hard to find now.

If I get low on my .308sp's, I'll switch to my 7.62x39, for which I have mucho 125gr sp rounds for.

Dad used 150 grain Federal Fusions for years then I loaded 150gr. Core-Lokt for his 308, both were surpurb
They can advertise, hype, and sell you more expensive ammo but it's not going to kill deer any better than either of those

I'd say your right. The Winchester soft points put em down. They shoot good out of my rifle also. I just ponder on things & want to see what others are using.
