I've killed coyote with my previous 416 Rem Custom CZ550, 350 gr Speer Hot Core @ around 2550 fps mv. Range about 60 feet. Entrance side was great. Off side shoulder was Gone. Some ribs were Gone. Heart and lungs were mostly gone.
Couple months later I shot a fox with my 9 3 x64 Brenneke. 250 gr X bullet @ around 2800 fps mv. Range about the same , 60 to 70 feet away. It wasn't pretty. But not anywhere near as bad as the 416.

I've used the 416 Rigby with 400 grain solids on a prairie dog. Over penetration was a problem. I'm selling that Rigby.

I prefer classic.

Call me a wimp I have only used the 458 Win. on jack rabbits. Between those two the 404 has more panache and a little more diameter if you ever get charged by a rabbit. The Jeffrey does it's thing at a lower pressure too. Both mediums are more versatile than anything bigger although the 45s can be loaded down they just won't have as flat a trajectory as the mediums. I also find that the 375-404 range is my upper limit for fun shooting or bench sessions with full house loads.

It would come down to what action and components you have on which is the better way to go. A few more bullet options for the 416 but the 404 has enough good ones. Components would be cheaper for the Taylor but I usually don't worry about this too much. I think re-sale would be better for the Jeffrey but again not something I get too concerned about.

Wouldn’t want to be on the receiving end of either.
