Do you guys write down notes on each rifle, like when/where it was acquired, price, serial #, load it likes, etc? As the years go by I start to forget the particulars of where I got a certain rifle or how much was paid/traded for it/etc. It'll only get worse as the years go by and the collection grows. Anyone have a favorite method - hangtags when in the safe, one notebook, computer file, etc?

No, it’s too late now. I’ve forgotten where I acquired most or what I paid.

I use a spread sheet for rifles, handguns, and shotguns. I had a box of receipts that got it started 20 years ago.

I have been using spread sheets since 1988. That was Lotus 123.
By late 1989, engineers had to use Excel, that sucks as as a spreadsheet, but that was a good time to invest in MSFT.

I also have spread sheets for dies, reamers, and scopes.

I should have had a spread sheet for my load books, but 21 years ago I stopped using them, and use Quickload instead.
I should have had a spread sheet for gunsmithing books.

My wife just sent me a video on how to de clutter.

I do basically what rem141 does. I include any individual identifiers on the firearm as well. I don't know why, just do.

A file with photos as well.

I know a guy that removes the recoil pad/plate and writes his last name and the last 4 digits of his SSN on the stock. Proff positive where they came from if needed. All S.N. are recorded with pictures for insurance purposes.

Sounds reasonable till you start talking to them . Many have very little education of firearms , I mean very little and dont really care .
Don't want people like that near my guns with a screw driver .
Kenneth

Always write down serial numbers , make and model.
I got a notebook I keep tested load data for each rifle in .
And they like pictures too , cause some don't know a Remington 1100 from an Arisaka , and that's no shiit

Nope, others then those I had to document to get registered when I moved to Alberta in 2005. The current kit is fairly different now.
