We just finished eating them 5 min ago. Nice lunch. smile

I just used an egg batter with bread crumbs with a bit of salt. Don't want too much other flavour to overpower the fish. They are pretty good as is.

Used to net them in spring in Lake Superior . I remember cleaning 5 gal buckets of them. They were so good. Jealous. What do you use to catch through the ice?

We use a wild shrimp from NFLD called prawns with two or three hooks on a line with a lead weight about 6" off the bottom.

I used to see folks catching smelt at night around the Great Lakes as a kid. I grew up in Ont. They'd drop a 4 corner net over the side of a low bridge and lower a Coleman lantern to the water. When the fish come to the light, up comes the net. 100s in every haul.

We didn't get much snow but the ice just kept coming. I've never seen ice stay on the trees like it has. Over a weeks worth.
