I tried it for the first time this evening at the behest of my Italian wife. I was dubious to begin with, the products produced by the local store have been pretty boring, tomato paste smeared on a paper-thin pizza with a bit of cheese and three or four slices of pepperoni. The only difference with the Detroit pizza is a thick crust more tomato paste and six slices of pepperoni and a bit more unknown cheese. The Bride liked it, to my surprise. Have you guys tried this product?

No.....but I have a Detroit pizza pan that I have been meaning to use.

The cheese you are supposed to use is Brick cheese?

Mozzarella is flavorless anymore.

We make our home made pizza with swiss and let it bubble really good b-4 taking it out of the oven. Try it sometime.
Yummy! Don’t have any desire to visit Detroit.

Most pizza sucks ass these days. In 95% of them, the crust is the same generic, over-processed crap. I miss the days of doughy, bready, tough crust.

IMO, pizza has 3 important ingredients - good textured crust. Good tasting sauce, and cheese that tastes more like it came from a dairy than from a bag.

Edit to add,....

I've never tasted Blantons.🙂

You had an inadvertent pun there when you said "buddy" because that's what a Detroit Pizza is, an 8-square from Buddy's.
Here's a story about food being called different things in different places. Back in the 80s, my BIL and myself, both military history buffs, went on a long weekend trip to New England. Along the way, we stopped at Fort Ticonderoga. We were looking at the menu in the restaurant there and say something called a "Michigan hot dog", which we had never heard of. We asked our waiter and him, having worked in Michigan, explained that it was what we referred to as a Coney Island. I found it funny that in Michigan it's named after a place in New York and in New York, it's named after Michigan.

While wearing $500 whites loggers.

I’ll check the freezer section to see if Red Baron does Detroit style.

Somehow I just can't get the urge to try anything with the word "Detroit" in it. Why name any food product after a chithole?

I think that it is amazing that you found any cheese at all on a Pizza Hut pizza.

Odd that, food, and spices named for where they are eaten, not where they come from?

I have a Geno's East t-shirt in my shirt rotation. A famous deep-dish Chicago pizza joint. It was just okay IMHO.

Prefer the thin crust NY style.
