Answer------.243 1x8 or 1x7.7 twist or you can get a little more with a .243 A.I. the 6-06 just burns more powder for not much advantage. I know it doesn't sound as sexy as 6-06. Rio7

6mmAI with 1-8"twist in either a 5 or 6 groove barrel
has had a better barrel life than my previous 6-284 that is close capacity wise to the 6mm-06
never been a fan of the 243 or the 243AI

6/284 is another good choice. Mine duplicates 240 Wby ballistics.

Going to need a long action either way, so between your two choices, I’d go 6mm-06. I’d probably go 8” twist, but might do a little reading up on the 108s, etc before making a decision.

I like the 6mm Remington as it is! However, I have two 6mm's and one 244, I think the next would be the 6mm-06, not sure. The Remingtons have a fairly fast twist, I'm not sure that you'd need faster. I'd have to go to an internet site stability calculator to decide what twist would be needed. I know some people think the faster the better, I'm not in that camp.

There's not much in TEXAS, the .243 won't handle, use what ever you think you need, that's what I do. Rio7

Why not that combo in a 700 long action for the longer bullets?

I have a 240 Wby and if I didn’t already have that I think I would go with the 6/06 for similar performance.

Because a 100 gr Hornady InterLock out of a 243 Win will kill any deer or hog in Texas?

The easy button is a 243 WCF.
There's nothing wrong with 6-06 .
I've had both.
Id run a 1-8 for the 105s.
Depends on what you got laying around ... Got a long action and a bunch of 06 brass. Then the 6-06 would be fine
..short action laying about 243 would be a good fit.
These days you have to pick what you have access to..

240 Wby with a 1/8. I see no advantage to a 6/06.

Having owned and used both a .240 and 6mm-06, I disagree. Brass for the 6mm-06 is considerably cheaper, since it can be easily made from .25-06 brass--and the 6mm-06 has around 10% more powder room, due to a larger-diameter body.

As far as the other questions here, a 1-8 twist will easily stabilize any 105-grain high-BC bullet. It can be a little marginal with 115s, depending on environmental conditions. Mine shoots 115 Berger VLDs great, but the lowest elevation I normally shoot in is around 4000 feet above sea level here in southwestern Montana. It will still stabilize 115s in a typical Texas winter, but they won't have as high a BC as they would with a 1-7 twist. But if you're not interested in 115s, a 1-8 works very well.

6mm Rem, 7.5 twist. No muss, no fuss. Load brass and go.
