I just ordered one in .243 and plan to put a Leupold FX-ii 6x36 on it. Its the V.2 recent production with the recall/trigger improvements done at the factory.

For some reason the simplicity of a break-open single shot with a fixed power scope just appeals to me in this era of chassis rifles, AR's, turret twisting and such. Of course I enjoy all of those kind of rifles and shoot the heck out of em, but couldn't shake the jonesing I had for one of these basic beauties.

Hope to take a bunch of SC and Alabama whitetails with it over the next few years....

Would appreciate any feedback from any of you with the Henry single shot in .243 as to what factory ammo it shoots best. First up for me will be the 95 gr Fed Fusions....

Only complaint I had was my face wasn't even close to the stock when I used a scope and if you lower the scope you can't reach the hammer

I'm going with low rings on the pic rail, and using this hammer extension to fix that problem....will let you know how that works out....

Let us know how you like the pistol grip. I've only handled one in a store and the grip area seemed very large and squarish in my hand.

I suspect they all wear the same stock, designed primarily with shotgun shooting in mind. No matter, as a long-time pre64 shooter I’m well acquainted with the chin weld. Might be dicey with a hard- kicker.

As to the squareness, I noticed a similar look on one of their lever actions a few weeks ago in a gun shop. Overall, it looked good and nicely finished, but there was a bluntness and squareness here and there that just wasn’t quite right to my eye. Probably a concession to easy manufacture and keeping the cost down.

I’m down to a .410 now after selling the .308 to finance a nice Mauser for the same cartridge. The Mauser is about a pound lighter actually. Still, I think the SSs remain a great bargain for those who appreciate wood and blued steel, even at the “improved” price.

Mine's a 44 Mag, sold my 45/70. I'm to stupid to post pics but here's how I set mine up. Leupold scope base, high Weaver Grand Slam rings, Leupold Vari-Xiii 2.5-8x36 scope, Grov-Tec hammer extension.

I have one in 243 that should see hogs in a week or so. I bought it used but mint with box, papers, etc., a little over a year ago. Really wasn't looking but it was priced fair and has really nice wood. Thinking the 80 gr TTSX.

Would a stock pack or riser kit help you out?

Probably. But it would probably make it look goofy as hell

My Henry .243 came in today. Set it up with Leupold base and ended up using med height rings and the FX-II 6x36 scope. Also added hammer extension.

Love the way it feels and handles and the pistol grip didn’t feel too chunky, but it fills up my hand.

And Henry seems to have fixed the trigger issue as my trigger pull gauge read 3-0.9 on one pull and 3-1.2 on the other so consistently right at 3lbs.
