Thinking about selling a Remington 40X that came from the CMP.
My question is, the stock is not in that bad of shape, other than it's fairly oily, grimy, a few dings. Do I refinish it with a nice oil finish or would that detract from the collectible side of the value?

Thanks for any input!

If it's grungy, then you could probably take the action out of the stock and give it a good detail cleaning with mild mineral spirits. Soft cloths and plastic toothbrush should at least spiff it up some without doing any "refinishing."

Color me surprised you have a 40X and haven't done that already. Rifles like that deserve to shoot, not rot.
