So many good ones with the Duke.

this thread is a rerun a bunch of times over, but the last time I saw one, I realized I'd misplaced my copy of "The Searchers".

ordered replacement DVD immediately, and took delivery today. smile

El Dorado + Rio Lobo also among my favorites (essentially same plot).

Big Jake

and probably my all time favorite.... "The Cowboys" smile

I hope you got the DVD with the commentary. El Dorado was a re-make of Rio Bravo and Rio Lobo was a re-make of El Dorado. Surprisingly, the Duke seldom died in a movie. The Cowboys was an exception. He also died in Wake of the Red Witch, Reap the Wild Wind, The Shootist, Sands of Iwo Jima and The Alamo.

I've never liked The Shootist. If they'd have had John Wayne kill all the gunfighters and then whip cancer's ass and still be alive today at like...150 or whatnot, then THAT would have been a movie.

I like "The Cowboys" best. To me, John Wayne is a far better fit for the settled rancher than he is for the loner gunfighter.

Within the G-rating constraints I think the writers did a good job of depicting how bad Wayne wanted to ravage Ann Margaret in the Train Robbers.

Sexual innuendoes flying off the shelf; boil that shirt, let them stand out. Let that hair down, let them see your a woman, on & on throughout the movie.

I just wanted to watch a western. But finally had to turn it off & go to my room.
