I've owned a couple of S&W 696s, but I found that I liked the Rossi 720s and Taurus 431s better. I thought that the Model 696 would have been a better platform is it had been built on a K-frame, basically a 5-shot .44 Special version of the Models 19 and 66.

My favorite .44 Special is the S&W 329PD, but second place would be a 4" stainless Taurus 441.

Such a sweet shooting handgun. Double action like butter. The K-Frame in this FBI configuration (three inch bull barrel, and round butt frame) just hits the sweet spot in terms of being large enough to shoot well, but lightweight and compact enough to be a great daily carry choice.

This one was made shortly after they stopped doing the pinned and recessed thing, but it's still from the time when all the metal was forged steel, the firing pins were affixed to the hammer (where God meant them to be), and blueing/polishing was still done right. In those days, large police and Federal agencies depended on these guns being made right, so they were.

This is a two and three-quarter inch ten yard group, fired double action.

It's true what they say, once you learn double action (which I did back in the early 1980s), it's like riding a bike. No matter how many years go by, you can still pick one up and shoot it at least competently.

Cool gun and good shooting.

IIRC that's the model. The FBI may have had a special designation, but I think that's the exact one.

The model I had was the 1006. Best 10mm I've ever owned, and I've owned a bunch.

Nice. If you have a model 24, I'll PM my address. You can only shoot so many.

I used to have a Model 28 Highway Patrol Model before the tragic boating accident. Recessed and pinned.

At the time that's what everyone else was saying too.
The delta elite had a lot of cracked frames on the used market. The Bren was collectable, but not something you'd want to use as a range gun.

That's a man's gun for sure. It's hard to find bad reports on that model. Glad it served you well.
The feds said that round was too much too handle with all the training and ammo available even to them after all the hoopla over the Miami shooting.
Never cared for the compromise round.

The K-frame 3" round butt guns have a cult like following for a reason. They are fantastic concealed carry fighting guns. Sorta the Glock 19 of revolvers.

My first 10mm was a Delta Elite. I've owned two Glock 20's, two Wyoming Arms "Parker's", an IAI (AMT) Javalina, and maybe some I'm forgetting. I was never interested in a 40 either until I ended up with one, but IMO it is a good cartridge. During the previous ammo shortage no common fighting handgun rounds were available much except the 40 S&W, which was in good supply, for some reason.

Even an AMT. Thats a full collection alright .
I respect that glock. I think that was Gaston's favorite too. Nice thing about the 10 is the versatility for hunting deer and pig if you want.

Those are just ones I've had over the years. I'm currently 10less without even that Glock. I wouldn't mind trying out a Rock Island...possibly a double stack.

I still have one, or rather my Daughter does now!

Bought her a Ruger LCR in .357 Mag, after she got her carry permit. (She carries .38 special) Got tired of lugging the gun from car to house and asked me for a second gun,

Little bitch got my S&W 28 for a house weapon. Mine/hers is recessed and pinned as well. I gave it to her so the ammo would interchange. Not comfortable with her caring a semi-auto at this point, lack of experience.

Is that an eight inch? Also, looks like a dash three rather than a dash two. No barrel pin.
