Buy a Howa 30-06 barreled action and pair it with a Bell and Carlson stock. For a mid $600 cost you can’t find a better shooter or more durable rifle setup. Howa 30-06 Barreled ActionBell and Carlson long action

To be completely honest, the best deal, if you can find one still is a Remington 700 ADL at Walmart for under $400. Sell the crap scope that comes with it, spend a little to put a Trigger Tech in it and scope it up and you are all set. This, but definitely LocTite the mounts to the action and torque the screws down first. The mounts on mine were just tight enough to keep the scope from falling off on the way to the car. Okie John
If Montana had a standing army, a 270 Win with Federal Blue Box 130's would be the standard issue.

A buddy is buying his first deer rifle. He seems to have settled on a 30-06.
He also looking at a tikka for $650. Thanks for any feedback. Why look any farther ? Jerry
