my first gun was a 410 model 37 - I want to give it to a grandaughter that shoots. Its been much used over several generations . It extracts shells but no longer gives the click and eject . I am assuming it needs a new extractor sear . The spring seems strong .. Anyone have one of these apart to confirm what i need to order . thanks

My first gun is also the M37 in .410... Here's a schematic of the firearm: https://www.gunpartscorp.com/gun-manufacturer/winchester/shotguns-win/37-win

Does it 'extract', but not 'eject'?

I just replaced the ejector spring and firing pin spring on a 12 ga. It now ejects empties over my shoulder. got the springs from wolf.

It could be something simple like a collapsed ejector spring.. While the ejector's out, try pushing it back in manually.. If there's very stiff resistance, then you might need a replacement ejector sear - but at the same time, the original might just need some refitting and you'd be good to go.. This is something you should be able to do yourself - just need a suitable punch for the retainer pin.. Then visually inspect the contact surface for abnormalities..

My first gun was a Model 37 .410. And the first and only modification I ever made to it (still have it since 1951) was to cut coils off the ejector spring.

When I got it the ejection was so strong that it would shoot a LOADED shell into your eye or into the mud or the creek. At six bits a box, I couldn't afford that.

I LIKE it to just extract the empty or the loaded shell!

on my 12 ga with the new spring, it extracts a loaded shell, just lifts it, but launches an empty over my shoulder.

man I just passed on a 37 red letter 410. It was redone, fairly well, but certainly it wasn't original. Store still got 500 for it.

Just a follow up on my old 410 model 37 - I drove out the pin and found a 1/2 in broken off the ejector . Jack first had a replacement and 41.00 later it ejects them again . Its off to a grand daughter for another generation . I just bought an identical one - same hardware store.same time frame. but so unused its stiff .. cool starling shooters ; thanks for the responses
