Over the years, I have picked up a few Bear boxes. I try to find one for every caliber I have, but haven't seen a .250. I have a .300, a .303, and a .30 Remington. You might check out Ward's auctions out of Salem, Oregon. They have an on line auction right now, and always have a ton of collector's ammo. The rifle is usually a bargain compared to the old shot shells.

But it's good for hunting jagulars, woozles, and heffalumps. Which is nice.

The bear box means you can only hunt bear with that ammo. No deer hunting allowed.

The silvertips is that age of ammo is entirely different than the later boxes. These early silvertips were made of a harder Nickle silver and the silver cap extended to the base of the bullet. Around 1950 Winchester cheapened the silvertips and made the cap of light aluminum and covered just the tip of the bullet.

Maybe both? I did kill one bear already with a 250 so they work.

Update- A member helped with some odd 250 ammo and a couple boxes for looking at, and I found the right ammo for the box elsewhere, so it's on. I can already taste the bear stew (probably because I just had it for supper yesterday grin)

I have Silver tips in Both 303 Western and 300 Savage. I love those old ammo boxes. Don't have the heart to shoot them since I reload for all Savage 4 calibers. The 1950's were a great time to be a kid. I can still remember my dad's friends coming by in their
vintage Chevrolets and Fords with a Deer strapped to a front fender as they displayed the bullet that brought them down.. They had dug it out and stuck in the fired case. I was completely in awe and amazement at the killing power.
