I recently picked up a Remington 600 in a 222. What would be a nice lightweight scope with a:

1” tube

40 or 50 objective

Illuminated reticle

Variable power up to 12x or 16x

Great glass

Matt finish

$700 or under in cost

At your price point.............good luck

Illuminated reticle might be the deal breaker, or great glass. you might have to give up one or the other or come up with more $$$$$$$$$

Leupold 4.5 -14 should fit the bill nicely...

Does anyone make an illuminated scope with a 1" tube?

My 600(6x45) is getting a lightweight 20 Practical barrel shortly and this is the scope I'm planning on for it.

It is within an ounce or two of any other 2-12 scope, some lighter, some heavier, all considerably more expensive.

Since when is a 20 oz scope "heavy"?

You’ll probably have to give up something to get a 1” tube. I’d suggest a Trijicon Accupoint 3-9x40. Light, tough, about $650 street.

If you go 30mm you have some more options, but IMO putting a Hubble on that little rifle would be a mismatch.

EDIT: that Argos has the features, but if you have $700 to spend, I’d spend it. I’m trying to buy proven stuff when I can, from outfits that have been around and will likely stay around. Personal choice, as always.

All I wanted to know was if the weight listed was correct, not get into an argument about scopes.....

Mine's a chunk monkey, too....19.3 oz. on the postal scale.

But I'm puttin' it in some Talley LW's so I've got that goin' for me....

This does bring up some good points, though.

It's pretty hard to find a new production decent, light-ish weight 1" variable scope for lighter weight walking varminter type rigs. I've got a few NIB Weaver Classic 4-16's from when they were being discontinued...good optics, reasonable weight, not horribly long and the occular doesn't look like a baseball bat.

It's a 30mm World out there and you can't tell the occulars from the objectives on some of that stuff....

I shoot a number of 1-4's, 1.5-6x40's, 2-7's and 2.5-10x40's on various coyote rifles, that 2-12x40 Athlon is still one of my favorites for beyond 300 yards.

My little Sako wears a Leupold 2-7x32? Compact, I tried it with a 1-4 but the little Leupold is a nicer fit.

I have never had or looked through the Athlon Argos or any of there other scopes. How would you compare it with other scopes for clearness and brightness? Would it be equal to a Nikon? Burris ? Leupold?

I figured I'd forward this question to a few tech guys at various companies and here are the replies I received:

"The only options we have for 1” is the whiskey3 series, which is not high end, but does meet all the other criteria."

Leupold:
"Tough with 1 inch tube and illumination. The illumination comes in 30mm tubes and for the price point, I would recommend VX-3HD 3.5-10x50 Firedot twilight hunter."

BTW, we have a few VX-3i's left in stock that may be a great option for you

The Fullfield IV’s are available in a 3-12x42, 3-12x56, and 4-16x50mm with illuminated reticles available in all 3 sizes, but if $700 is his number, I’d suggest he go with the much better optical performance of the SignatureHD. The SignatureHD series has a 3-15x44 which sits nicely in the middle of his desired ranges, is a 1” tube, and has the option of the illuminated Ballistic Plex E3 at a glass quality darn near the Veracity."
