I got bored with perfecting the stuff I should and decided to play around a bit. I wanted to attempt a hamon and try a little file work. Both came out ok for my first attempt. I’m really digging the process and plan on doing a lot more of it. This one is another out of 1084 with purple heart scales. The 3.75” blade hardened up well and seems to take a real good edge. Crap lighting but you get the idea.

Very nice!

File work, swedges and taper tangs, IMO, is what makes a maker stand out.

Devils in the details.

My view is the extras are what justify higher prices than other customs. I'm not one to pay inflated prices for knives because someone has become popular.

Isn’t that how it works in your career field?

The longer you do it, the more skill you have, the more you are paid?

The differential heat treatment is not primarily for looks (hamon).
It serves a function.
Hard cutting edge, with a softer and more forgiving spine for heavy use blades.
It looks cool just because.........
And for some uses it is functional to.......

just my 2 cents

And oh yeah, nice work.

Thanks Mike. It gets me out into the garage at night and away from 3 boys that haven't been around enough people lately! It's like the thunderdome around here!
