Given the time of day, and the impression of size, I think it's an owl.

Got another mystery bird pic on another card I'll put up shortly

Looks like.an owl to me.

I kept finding fur and feathers in the yard and wondered what was getting them. Then I saw the GH owl on my roof one night recently.

I wish he'd get rid of the neighbors cats!

Barn Owls can make some pretty big nests, too. We had one that had a big nest built high up in a huge ancient oak tree in the woods back behind our house when we lived out in the country. It used to cruise our backyard at night for rabbits. The rabbits would come eat apples that fell from our apple trees and the barn owl would kill and carry them back to it's nest. It would always rip the heads off and leave it laying and carry the headless carcass away.

Well, you wont be bothered with wild turkeys.

So that's why I occasionally see turkey feathers.
That's a shame. I wouldn't mind some cat hair.

Would not bet on an ID based on either image.

A daylight Barn Owl.

Don't have a similar flight image of a Great Horned.

If one has Great Horns around, he should be hearing them, as Feb is the territory lock down and breeding month. Nesting and eggs in March.

Commonly see and hear both barred and great horned owls in the neighborhood. Barn owls are around, supposedly, but I don't think I've ever laid eyes on one. I hear what I think are some of the smaller owls around but have only seen a very few in my time.

Yellow wash on flanks, greyish overall, no wing/tail markings visible, clearly a songbird. NW Illinios is February. I’m going with female American goldfinch.
