Hard times, don't want to waste components developing loads if I could just sub 16 for 15.

No. Not the same powder.

Darwin would have just let him do it..

Went to accurate shooter website, the guys are substituting RL16 almost grain for grain with H4350, which places it significantly slower on the burn charts.
BSA, I asked an honest question on here, because I didn't know, and didn't know where to look. Perhaps I'm not a mensa candidate, but I am smart enough to ask questions. I suppose, in certain circles, snark is considered an adequate substitute for knowledge.

Well this is a fine pickle we're in, should'a listened to Joe McCarthy and George Orwell I guess.

Flintlocke you can tell that most hunting seasons are closed as the snark level increases in proportion seasonally. Come on bear and turkey seasons.

R16 is very close but not the same as R17 and will load to within a grain to grain and a half of each other. It is not consistent across the board but if anything R16 may be slightly slower to almost the same as R17 and both are similar to the 4350s and nothing similar to R15. Just like R26 is usually faster than R25 the designation numbers don't mean much as far as burn rate comparisons.

I may be wrong thinking on this, and if so, someone please explain it to me.

The same reason competitive shooters that shoot at any kind of distance don't test loads at 100 yards because it's almost a waste of time. Too close to get a true reading of what's happening accuracy wise.

Thanks, Boston old Bean, I'm starting to figure out that Alliant's numbering system is decided on Friday nights at the bar closest to the office.

Hell, I didn't know either. The only Reloader powders I have, or ever messed with, is a bunch of RL-15, and RL-7 (for cast bullet loads). The rest of the RL line of powders haven't been in my wheelhouse, so to speak. (I did wander into a LGS in PA last week that has a whole slew of different RL powders in stock. Got me thinking about expanding my horizons beyond the IMR's and Hodgdon's that have been my mainstays.)

I'm glad to learn that Norma 203B is identical to RL-15 as I have some of that too, and wouldn't have learned that had I not followed this thread. We can't none of us know it all, try as we might.
