This was a custom .585 bullet I asked Geoff McDonald from Woodleigh bullets to design in the late 90's. It was a 900 grains weight softpoint as opposed to the usual 750 grains for 577.This was back when Geoff still took small orders, only one run of 500 was ever produced.

Someone with more bullet making knoweldge could explain how it was modified on his line. Basically to look at ,it had a flat meplat which would match the size and position of a standard 750 grain SP with its blue nose cut off, like an oversized protected point bullet. The shank was extended to get the weight up. He sold them to me as 'seconds' in the end, during manufacture or maybe cooling they accumulated some nicks and scratches on the jackets. They still shot more accurately than any other bullet we were trying off the bench. I sent some to Mitch Carter and Dan McCartney in the USA, probably the two most prolific 577 shooters of the day, and Mitch was shooting one hole groups at 100 yards.

Not a great picture, but size comparison next to a loaded 45 ACP.

Can anyone guess the maker of this 500-gr RN FMJ solid for the 470 NE ?

The hollow point .475/ 500-grainer should be an easy one to name maker,
but might be considered a bit "oddball" in this application.

Extending the oddball bullet to oddball cartridge:

[Linked Image]

That is a 680-gr Hoch Nose-Pour cast in 30:1 Lead/Tin, sized to .512" for this .510"-grooved, "wildcat" .50-70 Little BigHorn.
40.0 grains of H322 with a 1/4"-thick foam wad gets it to 1303 fps MV in my 28"-barreled Rolling Block.
Accurate in 1:24" twist.
Slower is no good.
Can't do it with BP.
Oddball.
You'll need a 1:8" twist for subsonic with the 50 BMG oddball loads in this "wildcat."

70 grains of compressed GOEX FFg with a 0.030"-thick cardboard wad and 2 newsprint wads
with 452-gr Lee (30:1) sized to .512" gets MV of 1225 fps.
Supersonic with light bullet BP loads for re-enactments of Little Bighorn massacre of 7th Cavalry.
Custer's hunting rifle in the Black Hills.

If you had one of those in your trouser front pocket people would think you are glad to see them.

1500 fps loaded with BP for 17,494 ft-lbs. at the muzzle.

Above is a single-barrel Jones under lever rifle by Stolzer & Sons (28" barrel of 1:48" twist)
that weighs 22 pounds and 3 ounces, including 3 mercury recoil reducers weighing 13 ounces each

See:

http://www.2-bore.com/

S&H made some custom bullets for me of .395 caliber, a caliber for which I had Harry McGowen get tooling. My own private caliber, shared with The Proud, The Few others.
That is a bit oddball.
I also have moulds for ~1400-gr 12-ga slugs and ~950-gr 20-ga slugs made by Steve Brooks of Tru-Bore.
Those are fired in my rifled slug guns for 12ga From Hell 3.85" and 20ga Ex Purgatorio 3.5".
Kinda oddball.
