So the family and I will be visiting a friend in Columbus Georgia here in a month and I thought that since I was there I should shoot a pig. Not looking to spend a ton and dont really care if its a "trophy", just want to shoot an eating hog or two. Anybody know anything near Columbus that would fit the bill? Would really prefer to shoot with a stick and string but some guys dont seem to like bowhunters so gun is ok too.

Thanks in advance

That is the middle of turkey season here... you do not want to get caught shooting birds around bait.

point being with the bait and birds and hogs.

you can say your hog hunting over bait (legal)

the warden can cite you for hunting birds over bait (illegal)

best way to get hogs is over bait.

wish I had some suggestions for you where to go.

Whatever you are willing to put up with, is exactly what you will have.

Not close to Columbus, but there's a couple of operations that specialized in pigs down near Waycross and Valdosta. Can't remember the names.
ALMOST guarenteed "hunts".

There is truth there. I remember one of our esteemed campers getting caught up in something like that-- all legal and above-board, but it took a while to sort it out.

Also: remember to buy at lease the short-term non-res hunting license.

Finding a hunt just a month out will be difficult. Usually, it takes at least 6 months. If you do find a place, be sure to bring your thermacell.

Well we did find a hunt on short notice, we both got hogs hunting over some corn that was just thrown out on the ground. Hog wild USA seems as if they could accommodate almost anyone on short notice but honestly the hunt was not that much fun. It was ok for a 1 day hunt but......it was not that exciting.

One of the dives on the Alabama side would be your best bet.

That's funny cause I know that dude. And I saw your post asking for a recommendation at the time you posted.

If you want excitement from GA pigs, do it on the ground with a longbow. Plenty public swamp. In fact the wildlife refuge near where you hunted is a decent spot when you can get in there. There is WMA not much further. You can shoot hogs with the weapon that is legal for other game. So you can shoot hogs in any season.
