This is starting to look like a bullet thread. All of them are bad and all of them are good. There does seem to be a consensus against Samsung though.

Yes, Water Heaters are the same. My takeaway is the product is sensitive to installation. Do it right and the product will preform to specification.

Whichever you decide on I would buy the extended warranty. It never used to be worth the cost. but with how they are building appliances now it will almost surely pay off.
I had a 2 year old Frigidare freezer go down recently and the repair under warranty paid off.

We bought a brand new Samsung in Aug '19, it failed in three months. And overall we like Samsung products, have three Ss flatscreens.

We were without a fridge for two months during covid due to lock down and getting Samsung to warranty/replace that thing. The Samsung rep told me that that fridge had 102 sensors and a 220v step up inverter. A huge pile of 'more is less' crap.

We finally got it resolved and went with a Whirlpool bottom freezer model, problem solved. Ours isn't the only story like this; we have friends with the same opinion/experience.

We have a Samsung fridge bought from a Sears surplus store at about 1/3 MSRP, which is about what it's worth.

Buy from a local dealer.
Individual store, look for the guy who owns it.
If you are lucky, he will be one of few people there.
If luckier, he will be over 50 and grew up there.


Visited ours last fall.
Buying a different appliance.

They are known as GE store, but can get most brands and
he is selling more LG stuff than GE anymore.

He didn't bad mouth Samsung, but didn't seem to like them.

As an outfit that provides warranty service for numerous brands,
he doesn't have issues with getting LG parts, but nobody has
good availability right now. Which was a concern of mine.


The point(s).
Deal with a small outfit, they know you will be in to chew their
ass personally if you have a problem.

The owner doesn't want issues, and they will land in his lap.
He does want your business, now and later, so he wants you happy.
He does personally deal with the issues, and repairs,
He knows whats, good and bad. Now, not 30 years ago.

If you do have a problem, it isn't you, Lowe's, The warranty dept,
And the local repair guy in a chain.
You call him, he deals direct with his contacts, and chit happens.
If he has 6 warranty issues to fix this week, who do you think
he is going to het first? His customer! Who is he going to
fight warranty for?


You get none of that (in depth) at a franchised store.
You get someone selling for commission.
They see your sale as a one time hit. Even if you come back, there
is a good chance you won't deal with them. If you have trouble


And this is the best part, at least for us.
He belongs to a co-op that buys in bulk.
They are the single biggest buyer in the country.
His prices are cheaper or within a few dollars of the big guys.
5 miles away. Not 40.

i steered clear of samsung when i was buying a few years ago but then somebody gave me a big stainless steel samsung that i use for my porch fridge and it has worked great even after bouncing it around getting it here.

I don't think any of them are dead nuts reliable anymore. Not like the beasts with huge compressors from 40+ years ago anyway.

My last fridge was a GE. Total PITA. It lasted maybe 10 years and in that time I replaced the freezer defrost element twice. After the third one burnt out I bought a Samsung. Base model, bottom freezer, no ice or water in the door. I got it on sale for a price that if it craps out in 8-10 years I wont be pissed. Just like this one:

It seems like the problems with so many modern appliances is with the gadgetry I don't really need. I don't need a motherboard on my ffuukking washer, range or refrigerator. No, really, I don't.

I buy simple appliances with mechanical operation made in America when I can. Speedqueen makes washers and dryers here. Bought an upright Freezer last month Amana made in America. Hope it is a good one. Our Fridge is an LG bottom freezer unit. It is several years old and no complaints.

laugh In our old garage is a Fridgeair that my grandparents hauled To Wabigoon on the 31'st of October, 1949.
It was used then, and still will run now! laugh

My parents house burned up in 64. The refrigerators paint was scorched but it still worked. My dad put it in the garage where he worked for the guys there to use. When my dad retired in 96, it was still there, I wonder if it still is.

Stay away from the Korean Japanese refrigerators. The compressors do not hold up. Customer service and repair centers are slow.
Stick with well known brands for white goods. Use the pacific rim for TV's and cell phones.

I had a Samsung Refer about 5 years ago from Lowe,s. The ice maker was the problem They put in 3 ice makers

and then the technican said it was not repairable. It was faulty design. Lowe,s took it back and we have had a Maytag

with no more trouble.

Step AWAY from the Samsung.

Ours was a POS. I became a legitimate repair man in less than 2 years, replacing motherboards, troubleshooting multiple thermistors, chipping out ice, and replacing ice makers.

NO ONE in my town will even TOUCH a Samsung. I called every repair shop in town and when they heard it was a Samsung they said they wouldn't even roll a truck - one actually hung up on me.

Just................No.

Never ever buy the Korean stuff it’s just not there. It’s a bit better than if it was Chinese built. But it’s not as good as the American brands. The appliance repair guys will say they repair more Samsung and lg stuff than anything else. Everything Samsung I have bought from stoves, refrigerators, microwaves, washer and dryers have failed early. Never again
