I picked up a 16" Tac 30 (30X6.8) 5Rx11 from AR15performance and shot a few rounds in it today.

I made the brass from 27GPC brass using Lee 30 Herrett dies and a 6.8 SPC shell holder. First trimming the brass with a 2" chopsaw from Harbor Freight.

For hunting I was thinking of using the 125 Ballistic tip for deer.

My first loads in it were 150 FMJ's with 1680 powder.

I haven't chronied anything yet or even have the scope sighted in.

Been running one using Cutting Edge Bullets 100 gr bullets.
One thing that every one needs to understand using a brass bullet will give you better penetration than any copper-lead bullet made period. And also higher velocities. Hit any animal smaller than a elk in the lungs with a CEB 100 gr. you will not be doing any tracking, they might go a couple steps.

Veddy interesting. My only comment is the 7.62x40WT would probably make more sense in todays times. But the modified herrett looks cool...

The 150 FMJ's read 2469, 2488 with 26 grains 1680.

The 125 TNT 28.5-----2567,
29---- 2599, 2634
29.5--- 2727 got stuck.

125 Ballistic tip. 29----2579
29.5---2678,err ,err

I think I will see what 28 does with the TNT and 28.5 with the Ballistic tips is like. Might back the 150 down to 25.5 as well.

The nice thing about the 30/6.8 is that you get not just higher velocity, but it has a decent shoulder to headspace off of. Theoretically, it should be a little more accurate than the WT or Ham'r. The WT and the Ham'r will fit more rounds in a mag.

The 30 Herrett does use 6.8 mags without modification. I only have 10 round mags anyways, that I usually only put 5 rounds in when hunting.

I have 800 of those GPC cases so I plan on making about 200 for the Herret.

It was suggested to me to try CFE Black with the 125's, so that will be my next load I will try,
