Hello,

I have the opportunity to purchase a 1964 Savage model 99F in the rare .284 Winchester. I know the blue book says to add 75% for that caliber and at 100% grading condition (which I'm sure it's not) it's valued at $750. So even at 100% grading and adding 75% for rarity $750 + $562.50 = $1312.50. My question is how much should be a reasonable price for one of these at or around 75% condition?

Also, I have another opportunity to purchase a 1981 Savage 99A in the rare .375 Winchester. I know the blue book says to add 100% for that caliber and at 100% grading condition (which I'm sure it's not) it's valued at $600. So even at 100% grading and adding 100% for rarity $600 + $600 = $1200. My question is how much should be a reasonable price for one of these at or around 75% condition?

One more question... Which one should I buy thinking in the investment mindset?

Please help me out and I appreciate you all!

in this market throw the blue book away. research sales on gunbroker and you will get close to the price you should pay.

just did a completed sale scan. one 284 parkerized went for 1075.00. a F went for 2500.00. a C went for 3700.00

375's completed none . two listed for 2500.00 no sale

good luck. if you can post pictures the guy's here can tell you condition etc.

Thank you, I appreciate it! I searched these rifles on the advanced/completed items in Gunbroker but the prices they sold for is really sporadic. These two rifles/calibers are going up for live auction tomorrow and I don't really know a lot about the Savage 99 other than that there are collectors out there probably willing to pay whatever amount if they don't have these specific calibers. I'm not really sure which one I should go after if I just tried to get one of them.

Either one for around 1k +/- 500 would be a score. Depending on condition!

Not a collector but think the .284 is more useable but believe the .375 is the rarer of the two. If you planned on using it I’d go .284 but if you are planning on turning it at some time I’d go .375.

You also have to take in consideration I just got a good deal on a 99 action and decided I could have a semi custom .358 Winchester built for darn near what I can buy one for.

The 284 is a monster cartridge and a 99 in 284 is a serious piece of equipment in the hands of a practiced marksman. Near or far, drop them. The 375 is a wild and mild 99 all rolled into one. I'd try to buy them both if you are enthused about them.

Thank you everyone! The auction is tomorrow and I'll post what they sell for and if I was lucky enough to be the high bidder. I sure do appreciate everyone's help on this!
