Recently posted ad: Savage Model 1920 250-3000 (250 Savage) in poor condition. Bore has pitting, but rifling is visible. It shoots reasonably well, but I recommend against shooting and its probably better for parts. Has what looks like original factory aperture/peep sight, original metal butt plate. Stock has been repaired at the wrist at some point, checkering is worn. No idea of the value, so asking $100 plus shipping, but open to offers. So what would you offer if you were the first guy viewing the post?

Yes, the question is a real one though I have purchased the firearm. And the funds have been accepted.
So would you only offer him his asking price when the seller acknowledges not knowing the true value of the firearm...

Not looking for a project - I want the 1920 rifle as a wall hanger for the man cave.
The firearm came from deep within the Canadian BC interior. Wished it could talk...
(like the repaired stock with a complete break at the wrist? how about the cap protecting the muzzle? bet it was a trapper's tool at some point)

Peep sight is worth more than $100, last I knew. I wouldn't have hesitated.

Bert,Im supprised you didn't try and talk him down !!!! I think the least i ever paid for 1920's was $400 and they both had the peepsights on them, which were creeping up toward $400 on e-bay. My buddy at the scrapyard had a guy show up the last week wanting to sell a couple guns to be scrapped. He had been to the police and they wouldn't scrap them ,they sent him to the junkyard. The 2 rifles paid him $1.65!! A crazy gun scared liberal who inherreted them i believe. One was a marlin levermatic in 22 magnum in like new condition, My brother bought it for $500 and was happy to get it. strange times. You did really well on the 1920, Im betting it will shoot well. Don

Doug Bingo Doug! I gave him double his asking price because the seller really did NOT have an idea of the gun or the peep sight's worth. As stated earlier, I only want the rifle for a wall hanger in the cave.

AS previously stated that sight would bring 300, maybe 400

I’d have paid the man, put the rear sight on my 1920, and sold the remainder of the package for $300.

That peep sight is missing the knob for the windage, should have gotten a few dollars off.
It looks like there is s cap on the muzzle, is it thread for a silencer? (suppressor for those that get particular).

To answer your question if the seller was someone who didn't know much about guns but was selling it for a need then yes I would have said the rifle was worth a lot more than what was being asked and wished them my best. You know, like maybe the widow or kids of the original owner. But if the seller was just some schmuck clearing stuff out then I would have kept my mouth shut, paid him my Franklin and been on my way.
