I purchased this 1952 Model 70 standard in 3006 last Tuesday in a small gun shop in NW PA for 600 bucks( thats a BSA steal! Lol) I just now took her all apart for cleaning. Bore is perfect. Solid matching bolt still has blueing on the bolt face! Something told me to look under the butt plate. Cant believe the original sales receipt was taped under the plate with the original owners name and address! I cant open the receipt because its falling apart. Definately an awesome discovery. This is the 3rd rifle Ive purchased that had that info under the butt or action

Very cool story. I have found old hunting licenses under the butts before but never the original receipt.

I am always looking for factory wood stocks!

Here is the one I picked up the other day in a 270, made in 1950. I noticed we have different rear sights. Makes me wonder are mine factory original?? Did Winchester use different rear rights??

79S: Yes there were a variety of rear sight options including receiver sights for pre-64 Model 70's.
I think the rear sight on your Rifle is on it because of the low comb stock and the original posters stock has a Monte Carlo (high cheek piece) stock.
There are a couple of good/informative books on pre-64 Model 70's out there.
They go into detail on many things including sight options.
Good for you on the "solid 52" Model 70 Standard Rifle.
Enjoy.
Hold into the wind
VarmintGuy
P.S.: Can you discern, without harming the receipt, the original cost there in 1952?

Bought a 94 Winchester made in 1936.Under its buttplate was a slip of paper that read" FRANK YOUNG FAIRBANKS, ALASKA."

79S your rear sight is correct. VarmintGuy, the paper almost crumbled apart in my hand. I believe 1952 was the first year a MC stock was offered. I was amazed the bolt was solid. Kinda late wasnt it? I do have a 1949 in 270 that also has a solid bolt.

Awesome man !! Great find... That's exactly the kind of rifle I look for when I'm out and about... Cool about it having the original owners info under the butt plate.

Not really I've seen 1953 308 fwt's with solid bolt knobs. When I saw your rifle, I thought to myself, I bet that rifle was made in '52. First year of the MC stock and solid bolt knob. Dead give away..
