looking for a sweet marinade for deer/elk. my late wife had one which contained brown sugar, soy sauce, diced green onions, sesame oil, and a few other ingredients which i don't remember. she'd marinate the meet for a few hours, then i'd grill it. so, anyone have a suggestion for a great marinade. thanks

Use whatever search engine you use google, duck duck go whatever and search for venison marinade soy sauce , brown sugar, sesame oil. It will pull up plenty of variations of marinades with those as a base. Probably the addition of garlic and black pepper to those three you remember would give you a pretty good marinade.
The search will help you with the measurements and or ratios. Good luck.

Can of coke, couple tablespoons of soy sauce, teaspoon of sesame oil. Good dose of chopped garlic but go by your taste. I would typically use a couple tablespoons. Finally a teaspoon or so of coarse black pepper. I use this on most any lean red meat. Really like it on goose breasts. You can marinate anywhere from a couple hours to overnight. Longer will get the meat more tender. Surprisingly no matter how long I have let this marinate flavor always seems about the same. Never gets overly sweet.

After I marinate I dry off the meat and scrape off any garlic. I lightly salt and generously pepper. Then grill hot and fast. If you want to really take things sweet a quick brush with a bottled char sui sauce a minute or so before taking off the grill. I like to go sweet with pork and goose. Anything else I leave plain. Char sui is a real sweet thick chinese bbq type sauce. Fairly common in most stores by the asian foods.

Whatever you do make sure your soy sauce is naturally brewed, like Kikkoman. If the label says hydrolyzed soy protein then put it back on the shelf if you're in the store, put it in the trash if you're at home.

Could do a citrus, orange juice, some orange liqueur, some oil, and herbs and spices. Add some brown sugar if you really want to sweeten it.

Maybe some lime too

Orange or pineapple juice mixed with a little peach jam.
