A while back I rehabbed and then sold a 7x64 Brenneke (98 clone). I've sort of regretted it ever since, though I do wish I could find a nicer factory rifle than the Zastava chambered in it. Anybody hunting with the 7x64 -- or know if any of the major American manufacturers ever toyed with it?

I believe Ruger put out some 77s in it.

At least for the French market there were Remington Mountain Rifles chambered for it, there are also quite a few Weatherby Mark Vs floating around chambered for it here. Personally, I've always favored the .30-06 more, but there is nothing wrong with the 7x64. My grandfather had one he mail ordered from a catalogue (those were the days) and it killed animals just as dead.

Not US made but, I have a Sako 85 Hunter that I picked up a couple of years back that I am doing some load development with.
It shoots factory PPU 140 grain and S&B 173 grain pretty well. RL17 and 140 grain NBT's are showing promise .
I do kick myself for not buying a CZ550 LUX in 7x64 years ago when I had the chance.
Ruger did make a limited run of M77RS in 7x64 a while back .
I wish that Lipsey's would do a run of the Ruger Hawkeye African in 7x64 .
I know that I'd buy one to go along with my 6.5x55.

Had one on a Howa action for about 6 years. Just sent it off to become a 6.5-06. Had no real complaints with it. Killed some deer and antelope with it.
Being a looney, I got bored with it and had to turn it into something else.
Ruger made some around 15 years ago. Blue, walnut and open sights.

I wish that Lipsey's would do a run of the Ruger Hawkeye African in 7x64 As do I. This should have been the choice over the 280AI last go round.

nyrifleman, I do not understand the thought process behind the Hawkeye African in 280 AI , I know that it is trendy but it's certainly not what I think of for a "classic" African hunting cartridge.
The .275 Rigby, 6.5x55 and 9.3x62 are no brainers; the 30-06 is another one that should be on the "list"
I'm sure that Lipsey's could sell 500 Ruger Hawkeye Africans in 7x64 pretty easy.

I HAD one, Ruger 77, traded it to dad for a Savage 99..............
maybe I'll get it back!?
I load ammo for him.......... BUT
...he set up a target about 125 yards from his barn, would put out corn by the target, squirrels would come and eat the corn, he then started shooting squirrels at 125yds, with a 7 Brenneke, and MY hand loads (that I didn't charge him for of course)............. I told him cut that chitt out or he could buy his own ammo..... actually, I'd still give them to him......

Had a chance to get one of those Brno 21s in 7x64 ( well experienced) but was not able to swing it at the time. Lots of time to regret that one!

I have a CZ-550 FS that is a great shooter but, the weight keeps me from really using it much.

I had a couple of BSA CF-2s a while ago. A 20" Stutzen (full stock) & a 24" rifle. The rifle didn't do anything the 280 couldn't do with handloads & the shorty was little better than a 7x57, so they both went DTFR. Wishing I still had the rifle, just a little, for something different. Still have a few boxes of Norma & Sako ammunition if you need some. It seems Remington loaded it at one time in the recent past (last 20 years?). The memory is foggy but am pretty sure I saw Green & yellow boxes of the stuff.

I have been fortunate in that I have been able to salt away three model 21s in 7x64, two with round bolt handle and one with spoon. I would just as soon have a single ZKK 601 with pop up peep in .308 though.
