Why. If the first 2 go then you are capable. Its between your ears. 3rd shot will go bang and kick regardless . may as well point it straight too

ALL DAY LONG

@50 yrds, though

awesome!!!

You only have to dump a buncha money in em to make em accurate.

Nice little aftermarket industry stuff for em like new barrels.
Stocks, triggers, firing pins , spring kits, ect ect ect.
Whizz bang marketed stuff.

Basically you bought a receiver and a bolt after you drop 3 4 500 or more benjamins in one to get it accurate.

Some people love em.

3 shots is starting to become the accepted norm because it's much easy to get a tighter group with a small sample.

The all day - every day that people like to tack on to their declaration is also an eye roller.

Gotta luv the old Cooper single shots......

A primer test......

Not all day long, but about 5 minutes between each group to let the barrel cool a bit!

I start choking at 3, I have a .308 Rem, tactical that will hide three under a dime, and do 5 in !/2 at a hundred, but we don't do it often because the shooter gets excited. My best at 100 with it is .131. My 300 Win Mag will do 1/2 pretty easy but again the shooter starts to falter after a few shots. This one will put them at 1 inch at 300, if I do my part. But not more than a few shots.

All my groups are one holers until I shoot the second round.

I have a couple of rifles that are capable of 1" groups at 100 yds with the right shooter and load, the right shooter and load doesn't always show up though.

I'm not interested in a rifles group until we get to 300, maybe 400 yards. Then I start paying attention.

What do you find satisfactory in a handy, straight up hunting rifle at 300?

wayne shaw is correct.bottom line.i have owned at one time 10 custom rifles and many factory.the customs were built by benchrest hall of fame gunsmiths.a few by gunsmiths who are known to be in the shooting world as good as good gets.to shoot consistent 1/4 moa or better you need the right calibers, bullets, powders, light trigger which breaks clean and consistent.very good optics, case preparation and can read the wind.sometimes more is required.when i say 1/4 moa im talking 5 shot groups.also must know how to shoot which takes time.so if were talikg groups in the zeros 1s and mid 2s all day its possible.1 hole groups all day never.opening the same hole into a larger hole 5 shots very doable when the conditions are right.

OK, I've developed my load. Now it's time to test for first shot, cold bore @ 100 yds. In this case I waited a few minutes and followed up with a second round.

Only two shots, but IMHO, this is a true 1 hole group. The 60 gr. load with the 130 Ballistic Tips/Accubonds is my "go-to" load for the 270 Win.

Ive rarely shot a one hole group at 100 yards, but I have shot a sub 36" group over 20 rounds with an off the rack M-16 with standard peep sights and 62g SS109 standard ammo while shooting from the prone unsupported position...

at 600 meters.

geedubya.thanks for being honest about the 2 shots.believe if it cooled you might of got 3 in that hole.now that is a very low zeros hole.basically who could say it isnt the same hole.obviously confidence in that load and bullet combo.great shooting and critter.no need to waste brass powder and boolits except for game.!!!

Always get a chuckle out of these threads...

We used to shoot Ten shot groups to see just how everything was working. Later we went to Five shots to save time and ammo, but we didn't really trust five shot groups.

Now three shots seem to be the "gold standard". I still shoot the five, but I only count the best three.

Well, there's a difference between hunting rifle accuracy and target rifle accuracy. When I was an eagle-eyed 17-18 year old and I was qualifying under the NRA Marksmanship program, I routinely shot 1-hole, 5-shot groups with an old Remington 513-T and a peep sight. I did it several times with 10-shot groups as well, though not nearly as often. Shooting a 513-T target rifle at 50' is considerably different than achieving that same level of accuracy with a high-powered cartridge under hunting conditions. My preference for a hunting rifle is 1 MOA, though I know it's not necessary.

I haven't read all these posts but why would anyone waste time and money shooting groups all day long? To say nothing about wearing out barrels.

Those who do this probably can't hit a pie plate at 100 yards if they get up on their hind legs and shoot like a man.

Don't blame me. I voted for Trump.
