I have begun my search for the Unicorn of Savages, a T in HP 22 (you can all laugh now). Looking through Davids book, I see a T pictured with a S/N of 35XXXX.

What is the S/N range these should fall in? I know they were only made for 4 years, so IF i find a unicorn, I want to be damned sure it is CORRECT.

You can humor me now.

Thanks in advance,

Blitz

I would say if you are going to find one now would be the time. Seems to be plenty of collectible firearms popping up for sale lately

I want a K in 22HP, but I think I'm going to get my 68 Formula S restored first, it might be cheaper!

I had one in hand a few years back and it got away. I believe it lives in Michigan now. Lesson learned.

I had an EG in 300. Had to sell it due to job loss. I have a H in 22 HP. A T would be a nice addition.

So the search begins...

General serial number range will be 350,000 to 420,000 - though I wouldn't rule something out that was close on either side of that.

If it's in good condition, probably cost more than the car I drive daily is worth. grin

Fug had one at the 1st Fest! Got to hold it closes I'll ever get to one. You might want to look for a 22hp in a EG also very rare, but out there!

If a totally correct T in 22HP showed up on Gunbroker, I have little doubt that it would bring 5 figures in today’s market. No doubt at all.

Way, way rare.

I remember asking Fug if it was for sale?

Doug just smiled and said "No." Blitz! you were there that first year with a cute little musician friend, IIRC.

Yep, at the first fest, and your memory is very good. We been dying to get to another fest, will try for Noxen this year. Had a great time at Jed’s meeting all you guys. A pretty special bunch.

There are some gun shops in NW CT that I’m going to visit. We’ll see what pops up.

May I be the first volunteer to make your search just a bit easier, One less competitor! I'm not seeking one.
Actually, you just sent me to David's great book to learn what the "T" is. I'm seldom impressed with rarity alone and that seems to be where its market is. Would that be correct? The rifle itself seeming to be a 'prewar' achieving 'postwar' appearance. About the opposite of what I appreciate in these rifles.
Anyway, hope you can rest better now! smile smile smile

Ralph McElwain has a 99K in 22HP that he wants to sell. It's a nice one. I photographed it for my new book. No idea what the price is. I will contact him if any one is interested.

Thanks, I think I'll just go sit in a corner and put a Dunce hat on. Two guys here tipped me off on a very nice 250 K on GB, knowing I was looking for one, last spring. Being mowing season hadn't started yet, and I dumped a pile of money into equipment, and was broke, I passed. One of the guys even offered to fund the purchase for me, maybe trade some stuff, but I passed. It sold for a little over $3000. I think I'll start a rack of guns that I passed on. The first one would be the very nice 1899 Short Rifle in 38-55 with a beautiful bore, that I dropped out at $1700, when I had over $3000 in my pocket. Then the 250 K. I bet this rack will fill up before my real racks.

That's it. He has a lot of memorabilia that I think he wants to sell also. I spent all the money I could afford on the one off engraved 99C
