Recently acquired a 1950 M-70 Heavy barrel Sporter in 30-06. As received, the stock had scope bases, however there is a front sight block for a globe sight and from a mark in the bluing it is obvious that it once had an aperture sight. Previous owner did not have the original sights. What are the appropriate sights for this rifle?

I'm frankly unsure just what Model 70 configuration you presently have, whether it's "pre '64" or later and whether it's factory. I suggest a number of good, clear photos to assist. That or 'winging it' and perhaps others here to assist! Best! John

Lyman 48WH for rear and Lyman 17 front for general target shooting, or Redfield Olympics front and rear, but they are more for position type shooting.

Thanks. Another member sent some information showing the 48WH rear and it looked like Lyman 77 front. Now to find a set.

17 or 77 I can't remember which one goes on a block and the other goes in a Dovetail, or if one is larger diameter.
ETA: Yep Lyman 77 mounts to the block. That is what you need. The 17 is the same basic sight but fits a dovetail cut in the barrel.
