We just got back from our annual 4th of July vacation. The fishing was tough, as the weather kept changing day by day. I'm wiped out. This radiation treatment is kicking my butt. Three weeks left. Man, I'll be glad when this is done. Other than being exhausted on a regular basis, it was a good week. The old Sylvan ran great, although I did manage to knock a blade off the trolling motor yesterday when I pulled out of the dock to put the boat on the trailer for the ride home. Easy fix-it's Minn Kota and they sell props for these all over the place. Boy, the 75 h.p. sure burns a lot more gas than my 18 h.p. Evinrude did!

We just got back from a week of camping. Yes, me 5 kids, and hot mama...in tents. Fishing was awesome although I will say it was weird. We were catching walleyes in 4 feet of water, A LOT. Water temps were 73 degrees. Weed edges and humps like you would normally find them, just really shallow. Fun though. Jack caught his first decent walleye, Kennedy caught a 33" northern. Tons of bluegills and hammer handles.

I was in DL over the 4th for a fam reunion. tried to buy a husband wife combo 14 day license and apparently bought it for the whole year. had some decent walleye fishing, caught one that was 23" and several in the 16-19 range. got into some sunfish that could barely be held with one hand and were thick and meaty. new boat is looking like it will work out great, unfortunately I have to work on our old house to get it on the market wednesday so no fishing for me this weekend frown

mama said we should take an icefishing trip this winter to MN since we have the license. no argument from me! maybe do some spearing with my uncle as well, he's pretty good at it. we'll see how the year shakes out, I have a bunch of tags I need to fill first, including a cow elk tag here in the black hills.

Ryan,

You will need to buy a separate NR spearing license but I think it's only like $15 bucks.

Anybody seeing any antlers yet? Man, I'm all ready getting the itch to go deer hunting. We've got fawns running all over the place down here south of the Twin Cities. I gotta think the coyotes are eating good right now.

Yes, quite a bit actually. Long story, that I'd never believe but my buddy had a buck in his garage. A few weeks back Jack was on a bike ride and was within 10 yards of a non-typical buck that was at least 18" wide already.

I've seen a few bucks on the way to/from work in the early and late hours as well.

We were camping last week and we say deer at all hours of the day, on the roads, by the lake, in the campground.

Best wishes Stan. So can they still light all the candles on the cake with a match or is it time to upgrade to the torch?

The assault on Prior Lake's sunny population is planned for this Sunday. This will be a direct frontal attack on a deep point they've set up a defensive perimeter on. Me, my daughter, and her boyfriend will do our best to thin the heard and be off the water before the danged water skiers take over the place. Not much better than a big batch of fried sunnies.

Well, we actually had to work for 'em a bit, but we ended up with 45 sunnies, a couple accidental crappies, and one perch. Fresh fish tonight!

So who's got deer hunting on their brain all ready? Time to go down and give the Man Cave a good going over. 'Saw a very small fawn laying dead on the road yesterday. 'Been watching two different does with twins for a couple weeks now. The crossbow will come out soon here as I gear up for archery. The hunter's urge sure is strong.

I'm done hunting. I'm moving to FL and taking up fishing. In the last 4 days I've caught more fish than I have in 15 years. They ALL fight like crazy. Even the little suckers!

The Mako shark fought the hardest, but the Black Tip Sharks were right behind. Couldn't bring the Mako in the boat, but the black tips were 8 and 9 pounds. They fought harder than any muskie I've caught. I can't wait to catch one that is 5-6 feet.
