You're supposed to raid your 401K for retirement. That's what it's for! laugh

Good luck in your search. There are some big bucks floating around Ladysmith. I've done tons of work there back when I lived in WI.

We found a really nice little cabin on 5 acres that's right across the street from 6,000 acres of county land open to hunting. If it was just my call, I'd be writing the check right now, but there's lots of other factors envolved here. We will keep looking. Going to see a 29 acre parcel tomorrow with a cabin on it. Four other parcels too.

The parcels we looked at were a little too far off the beaten path for us to consider as permanent residences. We'll keep looking. Hoping to line up another batch to go look at in a couple weeks. I'm going to start looking for Vision Center Manager openings both in Minnesota and Wisconsin and then focus our searches in these areas.

I saw a lot of really neat deer camps this weekend. Man, if those wall could talk. I sure hope I'm able to lay roots that lead to a long run like we had with our camp in Pennsylvania. Of course if and when this happens, you and Jack are welcome any time. I'd like to give a little back to you for taking me in when our hunting got so bad a while back. I can't think of anything cooler than having a Campfire get together or hunt sometime.

I went up to our WI deer camp yesterday to do a little shooting. There is a really sweet range just a few miles from it. They have ranges from 25 to 300 for shooting rifles. I shot my new extreme weather M70 30-06 some more and got it dead on at 100. It has Leupold CDS reticle so I'm supposed to be able to dial it in now that it's sighted in.

Also shot the M70 7x57 Mauser again to make some brass for reloading. But that is also sighted in right on for 100 yards. It really likes 140gr bullets. I was hoping to use RN 154gr bullets but so far, the 140gr are the champ.

I also shot at 300 yards for the first time yesterday. I hit the target, with both rifles so I'd call that a win so far! It made shooting at 200 almost easy and 100 was nothing after that! I'll be doing more of that! Especially if I can get the CDS reticle figured out.

We didn't see any deer. But, we did see a lot of tracks and one bear.

Fun weekend.

Less than a week until our Youth Outdoor Activity Day! We expect over 2,000 kids. If you are within 3 hours of Alexandria, you will want to load up the car (bus?) with kids and bring them. Totally free! 45 activities for kids to do, including trap shooting, archery, fire building, mountain biking, climbing wall, mock blood trail, casting clinic, crossbow shooting, outdoor cooking, geocaching, birdhouse building, and much more. Free tshirts for every kid and lots of prizes (I think we spent about $8K or more on BB guns, duck calls, rods/reels, and bows to give away. Free lunch (yes, including ice cream) for everyone.

And if anyone wants to volunteer, we can always use the help!

What you do today is important, you are trading a day in the rest of your life for it.

Hey Dean,

Since you're the youth hunt whisperer...This weekend when you're doing the Youth Outdoor Activity Day, can you do me a favor? Would you please corner someone from the DNR and ask them why the hell they don't have the Youth Deer Hunt state wide?

They want more kids to participate in hunting, but they severely limit the kids on which zones they can hunt in. It seems counter productive. We will be spending our money on hunting this season in SD and WI, because of how MN has been running the youth season. The boy will be pheasant hunting in SD during MN gun deer season. We will be deer hunting in the WI youth hunt in October and the regular deer season in WI in November.

Actually,be easier for me to give him my password, let them transfer it all over.
