Well Done Rooster !!

I was warm on stand, it was the getting to & from.

Saturday evening, I went to "unzip" to get out, heat had melted enough snow, that runs down the outside wall.

Damned crap iced up my zipper, so bad, & being so strong, I busted the 2 inside zipper tags off.

Lock de-icer, butane torch lighter & lots of swearing & I finally got out 20 minutes later.

$hit's funny, when you look back on it.

Another reason I don't like pop up blinds. The zippers are junk and LOUD on a cold, still morning.

***sneak sneak sneak, don't step on that stick, watch out for that crusty icy spot, sneak sneak sneak***

"Awww finally here. I was so sneaky, no deer heard me. It's gonna be a great morning. I can feel it!"

The moon is really working against us. It has been so bright at night, cold last night too though. I saw -13

A warm up for the upcoming weekend will not exactly help either. All that being said, you never know when the rut will help out and send a buck across your path in daylight hours.

Good luck Dave. I hope you guys see some movement. It's tough staying focused when there's not much going on.

The deer stand is a sanctuary, I enjoy it very much regardless of the number of deer I may not see. Life is so busy, moments of silence are few and far between.

I like to reflect on decades of deer hunting. At first there was more energy than experience. The energy created experience. Now the energy is fading, along with hearing and eyesight... and the experience is my crutch.

I enjoy being out there, I don't get down about lack of deer sightings, gotta put the time in.

Best of luck to you as well.

We have 300 acres of corn still on the vine in our area. Yikes, but that is a lot of corn flakes. Still, we saw a lot of deer. I saw 57 on Saturday but "only" 26 on Sunday. I feel plenny guilty for even typing those numbers when I read about all the people who saw few or none. As a group of 9, we shot 5 does and 2 bucks. My youngest twin boy shot a doe and my oldest twin boy shot a nice 8 point buck. I was always hunting with them so I am not shooting. the youngest twin passed a couple small bucks and my daughter did too. I wish I could transplant a few deer as we have too many. Will continue to cull them and plan on bringing some to the venison donation program.

That sounds great.

We've got ok deer numbers, it's just a different hunt, big forest, no crop land to "come out to feed".

Same game, It's just a different course. My few and far between deer sightings from heavy timber setups are of equal or greater value to me as groups of 20+ deer I see out in farm country at the edges of woods or just out in the middle of no cover.

We're having a good year, consistent fresh sign and a few sightings here and there, that's enough to keep me happy.

BM,

There is nothing to feel guilty about. There are plenty of deer around here. But we don’t see 50 deer a day because it’s not open country. Like Dave said. They don’t come out to feed. They’re always feeding. But we can see 100yds, not 100’acres. Kinda like hunting out west. You see tons of game even though there is probably more deer here, population wise.

Totally different hunts. Both fun. The big woods is in my blood. It always will be. I won’t shoot as many deer, or see even close to as many. But, it keeps sucking me back in! 😀

The daughter and I went out last night. She asked me what time legal shooting was over and I told her. One minute after legal shooting time she had a big 8 at 30 yards. She didn't shoot.

Camp Isabella report.

So far no deer have been harmed. But two were closed to being taken. Just the wife and me hunting now. The oldest stepson and wife went home Friday. They did see deer and had shots but went home without.

Been colder than heck living in the tents for the last week and have burned enough diesel fuel, about 60 gal. so far.

Did have a wolf walk by my stand yesterday, he stopped 15 yards away, looked nice in the scope. Had a gps collar and ear tag.

Chickenbuck report. I hunted by myself yesterday afternoon. Had 3 u der my elevated blind, doe, fawn, fawn. Fun to watch, took pictures and video, not what Im looking for at this point. In the stand again currently, windy morning, warm, possibly close to 30F before sunrise.
4" of snow on the ground and it is soft, quiet walking. Quiet for me, more quiet for the deer. We have 4 hunters out this morning. No deer taken at our camp yet. Someone may take a doe this morning, perfectly legal in our hunt area so its personal preference.

If someone can fix my image link, have at it.
