Helping an Australian out here in the States with his rifle. Anyone have a small quantity of 7mm Mauser brass-bullets-a bit of loaded ammunition.??

With reloading components being so scarce & expensive, 7x57 cases can be formed from 257 Roberts brass if that's what you come across. 7x57 was the parent case of the 257 "Bob" and it's easy to turn "Bob" cases into 7x57. Did that a few years ago because I had gotten some free 257 Roberts brass and had a 7x57 rifle. Figured I'd throw that out there due to the current situation.

I had the same experience. Friend of mine and reloading mentor decided to stop reloading and was giving his equipment/supplies away. He knew i have a 7 x 57 & do reloading. He gave me two boxes of 257 Roberts brass. Told me to make 7 x 57 brass out of them.
I did. they work well. Annealed the cases. then thru the sizing die with plenty of lub.

In the past, I found some Winchester 280 Rem brass for cheap.... its Nickel plated...
I sized it down with my 7 x 57 die, and trimmed it...
people were asking where did I get Nickel plated 7 x 57 brass at....
Have made it out of other brass the same way.... its not that hard to do so...

I’ve made a lot of 7x57 from .270 cases. Just sized them down, trimmed it, and worked on the neck thickness a bit and they worked fine. Basically any case based on a 30-06 should work.

I had ten pieces of .270 brass in my spare brass pile and I converted them to 7x57 as well. Thanks for the tip. kwg

Necks are very thick when you neck down and form brass to the 7x57. This will put a death grip on the bullet if you are not using a bushing sizing die. Anneal necks after you neck them down.

I annealed them before I resized them. Since it was .270 brass the necks should of been stretched and not shrunk. I have not yet loaded them. I guess I will know then for sure. kwg

I no longer shoot 7x57 and have over 250 once fired cases and 300 sealed 150 grain Nosler Ballistic tip bullets in 50 round boxes if anyone is interested.

I have run a box of 257 Bob through the 7x57 full length die and checked length trimmed / chamfered case mouths. I did not anneal the cases. Am I OK?

I never annealed mine when I did that and they now have been fired twice since then. Although annealing would probably allow them a longer life span. Zero annealing experience here but I keep saying I'm gonna try it.
