Hello everyone!

As I have posted before here, I am on my way to the ALaska Penninsula in October for a Brown Bear hunt. Same trip cfmc1 is going on.

On my previous two attempts to take a Brown bear I have taken a 6lb. Wenzel extra large cotton sleeping bag and found it to be barely adequate, if that. This time I am going to invest in a good bag. Some pre-requisites, I am 6'3" tall, 240lbs, and HATE being cramped up unable to wiggle around in my sleeping bag. I am looking for something in the 40x90 rectangle size class and I am looking at a Slumberjack 7 way adjustable Sleeping system and the Cabelas big bag that has a white Cotton duck cover BUT both of these are bulky and heavy. With my ammo, waders, waterproof clothes etc. I could go over the 50 lb. weight limit on my duffel if I am not careful plus I will be in a smallish pennaire airplane for one leg of my trip AND a super cub for the last part of the trip into spike camp so size and weight ARE somewhat considerations.

I am looking at some of the lighterweight bags at Cabela's and Sportsmans Warehouse but I am unsure as to which of the different fillers such as Quallofil,Hollowfill, Marshmallowfill, Thermagoop etc. are good or not so good in a small tent that WILL have condensation and or inside sweating going on. This is where the 6lb all cotton Wenzel was a not so good choice.

Suggestions? Reccomendations? I want to do this right, price limit apx. $200.00.

Try looking at a Wiggy's bag. Mountain hunter is a bag in the area of what you are looking for. I love mine.

Look at the Wiggy's bags, they are sold here locally in Anchorage and he has exactly what you need. Call and talk to Marc Taylor @ 336-1330, he is a wealth of knowledge when it comes to sleeping bags. LOL......looks like someone beat me to it.

Also, if you need to ship something to Alaska prior to your trip he will let you send it to his shop and he'll keep it safe for you until you arrive, ask him about it.

The Mountain Hunter runs about $180-$190 and he also has or is getting a new redesigned bag called the Glacier Hunter bag, good for down to 15 degree's and weighs in around 3 lbs. He opens @ 11 AST.

You may look at the Big Agnes Elk Park, it's a semi-rectangular bag.

Thanks for the tip, but none of the bags look very big or comfortable for a larer guy who tosses and turns a lot in his sleep. I called Mark T. and I am trying to talk myself into spending $300.00 (with shiping etc.) on a bag that I will probably only use one or two times...... Anyone have a slightly used Hunter model for sale?

Same topic, kind of. What are the pluses and minuses of Qualofil? Big agnes bags and several of Cabela's in house brand bags are filled with this stuff?
