Just heard it. He was 99, and died of a broken heart because Markle called him a racist. Well, that's what the American media thinks.

He had a pretty good run:

Philip was born into the Greek and Danish royal families. He was born in Greece, but his family was exiled from the country when he was an infant. After being educated in France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, he joined the British Royal Navy in 1939, aged 18. From July 1939, he began corresponding with the thirteen-year-old Princess Elizabeth, whom he had first met in 1934. During the Second World War he served with distinction in the Mediterranean and Pacific Fleets. After the war, Philip was granted permission by George VI to marry Elizabeth. Before the official announcement of their engagement in July 1947, he abandoned his Greek and Danish titles and styles, became a naturalised British subject, and adopted his maternal grandparents' surname Mountbatten. He married Elizabeth on 20 November 1947. Just before the wedding, he was granted the style His Royal Highness and created Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, and Baron Greenwich by King George VI. Philip left active military service when Elizabeth became queen in 1952, having reached the rank of commander, and was made a British prince in 1957.

Yep, the British royals tend to be long lived. All the infant blood they drink. LOL.

But seriously, RIP. He seemed a decent royal type.

The very best medical care would help, and not flogging their bodies to pieces earning a crust wouldn't hurt either.

Check out his full name w/titles, et al:

What is Prince Philip’s full title?

Today Prince Philips has 19 official titles to his name. There are an incredible 133 words in all his titles.

The full list of titles is: "His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Merioneth, Baron Greenwich, Royal Knight of the Most Noble Order of the Garter, Extra Knight of the Most Ancient and Most Noble Order of the Thistle, Member of the Order of Merit, Grand Master and First and Principal Knight Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Knight of the Order of Australia, Additional Member of the Order of New Zealand, Extra Companion of the Queen’s Service Order, Royal Chief of the Order of Logohu, Extraordinary Companion of the Order of Canada, Extraordinary Commander of the Order of Military Merit, Lord of Her Majesty’s Most Honourable Privy Council, Privy Councillor of the Queen’s Privy Council for Canada, Personal Aide-de-Camp to Her Majesty, Lord High Admiral of the United Kingdom."

On the morning of his wedding in November 1947, King George VI bestowed on Philip the official title of His Royal Highness Duke of Edinburgh. He was made the Baron of Greenwich the Earl of Merioneth.

I have very little concern about the Royal Family, but I do not think it's right for the American media to constantly slam them, based entirely on what a half-breed Negro says.

Well, yes. Royal funeral with lots of pomp and tradition.

I didn't even know he was sick.

Fought 2 wars so we didn't have to worry about the comings and goings of the Brit royals.

Love my Brit and Irish friends but don't give a toss about their aristocracy

Never as beloved as the Queen herself, I’m wondering if she will step down now.

Regardless the big question for the Brits is prob’ly gonna be if the already seventy-something Prince Charles assumes the throne at last, or if it’s gonna be his son Prince Edward, the overwhelmingly more popular choice in England.

Interesting education and military service:

In 1933, he was sent to Schule Schloss Salem in southern Germany, which was run by educational pioneer Kurt Hahn. But within months, Hahn, who was Jewish, was forced to flee Nazi persecution.

Seafaring tradition

Hahn moved to Scotland where he founded Gordonstoun school, to which the prince transferred after only two terms in Germany.

Gordonstoun's Spartan regime, with its emphasis on self-reliance, was the ideal environment for a teenage boy who, separated from his parents, felt very much on his own.

With war looming, Prince Philip decided on a military career. He wanted to join the Royal Air Force but his mother's family had a seafaring tradition and he became a cadet at the Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.

While there he was delegated to escort the two young princesses, Elizabeth and Margaret, while King George VI and Queen Elizabeth toured the college.

According to witnesses, Prince Philip showed off a great deal. But the meeting made a deep impression on the 13-year-old Princess Elizabeth.

Philip quickly proved himself an outstanding prospect, passing out at the top of his class in January 1940 and seeing military action for the first time in the Indian Ocean.

He transferred to the battleship HMS Valiant in the Mediterranean Fleet, where he was mentioned in dispatches for his part in the Battle of Cape Matapan in 1941.

As the officer in charge of the ship's searchlights, he played a crucial role in this decisive night action.

"I found another ship and it lit up the middle part of it, whereupon it practically disappeared instantly under a salvo of 15in shells at point-blank range," he told BBC Radio 4 in 2014.

By October 1942, he was one of the youngest first lieutenants in the Royal Navy, serving on board the destroyer HMS Wallace.

Charles will be King, but someone's going to have to pry the Scepter from her cold, dead hand.......................

I don't think she will 'give it up' .............

Charles is thought of as a dolt by most brits and would like to see him skipped, but it ain't gonna happen...........

Always thought his brother Lord Mountbatten was the last limey of any importance with a set.
