What do You think about these?

Haven't tried that specific model, but the Magnetospeeds I've used have all worked fine.

I have the Magnetospeed V3 and like it. This model really comes in handy when used on a barrel with a long muzzle break (ie, as in my Winchester 70 Classic with BOSS).

I love mine but I wish they would come up with a better barrel mounting system.

Maybe something that clamps on and gets rid of those straps.

I have the V2. Had it since it came out.

Plus:
Easy to set up.
Range does not have to go cold to set up and use.
The attachment strap is not bad once you get used to it.
You can use it about anywhere i.e. you can shoot into the ground if need be.
Easy to transport.
It is supposed to be very accurate but I have never compared it to any other chrono.

Minus:
You can't expect the same accuracy with it on as without it on (although I have seen it happen).
This will somewhat limit your sample size for average velocity unless you want to shoot a lot and not care about groups.
Some folks here have rigged the bayonet on a front rest to eliminate the accuracy issue.

I like my V3.

They do a good job. The issue I have with them is the time it takes to move from one gun to another. I like to take several guns to the range, let them cool while I shoot another. I set mine up to stand independently. JB did similar. You have to make sure you have good alignment after each shot, but that beats the heck out of multiple swapings.

IMO, they are an improvement over previous generations of any optical chronograph.

As Sakoluvr has pointed out, they are easier (and faster) to use. They are definitely less intrusive at the range. It is 2021. Any possible differences between expensive chronos and the Magnetospeed (or Pro Chrono) are negligible for virtually any shooter. For reloaders, the Magnetospeed is the latest generational improvement. They are also much cheaper than Labradar and Oehlers.

For reloaders who feel that they must own a chrono, they should be all over these.

I have my bayonet remotely mounted on a fabricated setup that attaches to my shooting rest & stays in place. It is fully adjustable for proximity to the barrel & muzzle.

I never leave home without it whenever I'm headed to the range.

Mine can be erratic with 223. Works fine for larger calibers for me.

Probably just my inability to set it up properly. If anyone has any tips for running one of these reliably with a 223 I would appreciate it. Bumping my sensitivity doesnt appear to help that much.

Also on occasion, mine will give an obviously exaggerated velocity. One shot out of a five shot string of book max loads will read 1000 fps faster, for example. With otherwise single digit SDs and hot loads, I doubt I'm screwing up that badly or I would have blown myself up by now.

That’s more eloquent than my set up. That one overhangs the bench such that a longer bench isn’t needed.

Yes, I think more rigidity would help.

I wonder if they tried two - two to three inch upper and lower plastic pieces that would clamp around the barrel? This would eliminate the strap. And rubber inserts on both pieces. Add two tensioners (thumb nuts) on the bottom piece, fore and aft, to snug everything up.

That’s why I abandoned it.. the barrel-mounting as it comes needs more refinement IME. I’m not the type who can or desires to fabricate/build another type of mount for it. Nor did I expect I’d have to when I purchased it.

I think about anything would beat their current system.

If mounting was faster and more convenient, then all my rigging, etc. wouldn't be necessary. In general, i'ts a good system and a good unit, just not the most user friendly when shooting multiple rifles. And, hanging on the barrel does alter POI, at least on slender barrels.

Instead of the strap, I think if they used two adjustable QDs or wing nuts to tighten up two plastic mounting pieces (upper and lower barrel attachment fittings), it would be good.

The only thing I do not care for is the strap. I don't mind swapping out the bayo. It takes less than a minute. I just do not trust the strap enough. I am concerned that it will loosen, so I check after every shot. For me, that's the annoyance. I should add that it has never loosened, but I can't get that feeling out of my head.

Yours is certainly more simple. If I had a tailgate bench like yours, I would be copying your rig. But, my shooting is reliant on a standard bench.
