Interesting you mention the Savage 1899 as that was the gun that brought me to the Campfire. Got the Poyer book and found lots of good info.
D.A.L. is David A. Lyle with guns marked as between 1916-1942.
My 1903 S stock will not fit an oiler tube. The tube is a 1/2" too long. Can I assume is was drilled for the spare parts container?
