I'm really liking this suppressor thing, and want another one. I've got a couple of Tikkas I'm considering cutting down to 20" and threading them. Problem is they are so accurate now I hate to screw with 'em much. Anybody done such a thing to such sweet shooters?
It is irrelevant what you think. What matters is the TRUTH.

I've had my X-Bolt and Kimber Montana cut down for cans. I had to rework my loads some for the shorter barrel + suppressors, but both barrels shoot at least as well as they did before hand, and I shoot better with a little weight at the end of the barrel and less recoil and blast. As long as the crown and threading job is good, I don't think you have much to worry about.

I cut down a T3 Lite Stainless to 19 in. Tikka had a Big Boar model at that length so that's what I went with. I can't tell you how it shot with the full length barrel because it went straight from the gun shop to the gun smith. He cut and crowned it for me while I waited.
With a handload of RL15 and a 150gr. BT I get sub 3/4 groups at 100 yds. I made this gun up to be my version of a Rem. Model 7.

What ever floats your boat. For myself I would not cut one down. To me kinda like the Magnaport thing. Once done it's done and not reversible.

Try one, see how you like it, and decide on the second one from there.

Chop them. Don't even give it another moment's thought.

I'm afraid to clean my T3x thinking it might screw up the accuracy.

I have built customs off of Tikka Actions and cut down factory Tikka rifles for suppressors and never had a problem. Had tweak a few loads but that was minor overall a short barrel with a can is the only way to go.
Thanks Derek

Cut down a 6.5 to 22” and it shot even better than it did at 24”.

Make sure you have enough "meat" on the barrel to be able to cut the threads or a suppressor. Like was mentioned, its permanent, but you can always rebarrel if you don't like the results. In theory a shorter barrel should be stiffer and therefore more accurate.

A prudent man would consider his suppressor's rating when deciding upon barrel length.... Whereas I just chopped, 17" 270, and my 7 RM is going down to 20", if not 19". Velocity isn't everything. WHAT? I SAID VELOCITY IS NOT EVERYTHING!
