Is the old Ruger an action where there is a spacer to make it more efficient for feeding short cartridges like the 308? Just thinking about reboring the 308 to 358 and set it up for long loaded 350 Rem Mags. Guess I need to go back and look again. Be Well, RZ.

If it's a 308, then it's already a short action and should be perfect for any other cartridge based on the 308 case.
You may have to tweak the action rails to make it feed, plus open up the bolt face. And it will still be a short action.

So it isn't like the Winchesters that had a blocked magazine box to "make" it into a short action? I saw an M600 Remington done that way to go from 308 length to .223. Be Well, RZ.

The magazine is very slightly longer than that of the Remington. About .020", as I recall. GD

I understand the desire to get rid of the block for a long throated 350 RM. Good luck with that

No, Ruger offered two action lengths in the original M77 rifles- 308 and 30-06 length, The only "blocking" done on the mags were with rounds like the 22-250 in the short actions. There was a .5" sheet metal spacer block in the rear of the mag. I always cut it out on my personal 22-250 and 220 Swift m77s. The .308 should be good to go.
