Huh?? The 6.6 Duramax is a good diesel minus the common rail leaking in the 01-04 year 6.6. Sometimes I wonder about you.

Had a 2002 Lb7, 6.6 Duramax, 4x4, cc, 5sp Allison., 2500, srw.
Put 260,000 mi. on it with zero problems and ran it hard but kept it up.
It was a very good truck. The gent that bought it has a cabinet making business and he’s still running it, last I saw several months ago.

I talked to a man. and wife in the late 70's delivering two new pickups. I asked why they were driving both.
I was told they could not tow with that engine, or they would have driven one, and towed the other.

The old 5.7 diesel was decent enough.
Just wasnt up to par on filtration and water separation.
I thought perhaps you were talking about the Toro Flow or the Detroit.

The first ones, a Buick block with diesel heads. I’m pretty sure you are talking about try old square bodies that have the converted gas engine to diesel, ye they’re turds. Also I’m pretty sure they were on half-ton frames and chassis. The new ones are good engines.

It may have been a Chevy block Barry. A GM block at any rate.

The good thing it’s the almost same motor in a Humvee, so parts were interchangeable. Don’t ask me how I know, the US Army would be pissed at me if they knew.

Oldsmobile 5.7 based Diesel. The late 80s 6.2 were ok but seemed to eat transmissions. The 6.5 in the 90s was a good engine judging by friends that had them. The problem was by then the Fords and Dodge diesels were everywhere. I’ve never heard anything bad about the Duramax

The 6.2 and the 6.5 were similar and shared many parts. I dont know of any parts commonality between the 5.7 and the 6.2. At any rate....the 6.2 was from the Detroit Diesel division.

I know a guy that hated Fords so badly, he carried an 8 foot length of chain, with the links welded together, in his GMC. Every time he broke down, he had a Ford “push” him.....so it appeared that he was towing the Ford! 😂 memtb

Pop had a GMC, ‘93 I think, with the 6.2 or 6.5.
Put 300k on it and sold it. Last I heard it’s still running.
Was a good truck but struggled to get out of its own way. Pretty common for a lot of diesels back then. Got good fuel mileage though!

Had a 2004 Crew Cab 2500 6.6 Duramax. Sold it after 13+ solid years and 335,000 miles. Injector pump at 215,000. Solid truck.
