Today was the day. Snickers was a shepherd, greyhound, ? mix. 15 years. Losing continrnce, , throwing up, half blind. Crippled Wife couldn't keep up with the nights and the dog would not stay at my bed. Karen has been sobbing for 4 hours, and bedtime will be worse.

Naturally the dog was acting good this morning. $400 for a visiting vet so took her in.

You all have been through this too.

We say last dog as we are mid 70s and the next one could outlive us

Sure hate it, BTDT. Get a new pup asap if possible.

Is it really $400 to put a pet down in your area?

It’s less than $50 here in Tn

400 for in home. That is easier on the dog and us, but more than we could afford easily. Shelter will do it for 85, but you drop the dog off and leave, can't do that.

145 at our vet with group cremation. We do not want ashes, paw print, and the full treatment. Memories are enough.

Worst part of having them is losing them.

Vet my wife works for does it for free if you're a client. I think that's pretty neat.

It crushes me to read these threads.
My little terrier is getting up there in years and when she goes, so will my heart.

Dam that's sad........hate it they only get a fraction of the time we do....... I wish I could give away love like my dogs do.......all unconditional and if their expectations are met, no worries, theres more love to follow.

Yep it sucks. When I was a younger tougher guy I would shoot them myself but nowadays I pay the vet to do it. $35. Got two heading in that direction, old outside dogs Tinker and Max. No matter how old I get I still need doorbells and my next outside dogs will be older rescues.

I know some folks who have gotten it done for 50 cents, although I don't know if I could do it. Love dogs so much.

Not trying to be insensitive, but it seems all modern folks are WAY too sensitive. A .22 to the head is inexpensive, and instantaneous
